    new guy from idaho

Welcome to Steel Soldiers. I'm in Caldwell, and I'm over at Idaho Motor Pool about once a week, getting into trouble with Alex. I was sentenced to being president of the Idaho MVPA , get ahold of me if you need anything.

    New Guy from Illinois

Welcome. I'm originally from central Illinois ( Metamora, Peoria area). I go back once a year to visit my kin in Metamora. There are a gaggle of MV's around that neck of the woods. Too bad rust is condusive to that area. ( Idaho has spoiled me). Actually, there is a member here (I forget...

California MVCC Tower Park / Camp Delta

Wasn't that Mutt ambulance Carl Berado's? He has brought it several times.

California MVCC Tower Park / Camp Delta

I'll be there with the usual (unusual?) Idaho guys. We'll be set up in the usual space. Find the Idaho guy with all the patches/pins/ribbons/uniforms/militaria. I get to be the old bald guy with the limp. Come on over. I'd like to meet some fellow SS guys. A couple of years ago, "Dieselsmoke"...

    Had a interesting visitor

When I first got my Goat, it was parked in front of my house in the driveway. I had only two or three of the gazillion radios in it at the time. (It was in the middle stages of a communication model restoration at the time.) Whilst I was outside working on it, a pickup drove by going down the...

    Need CX-4723 Cables

Me thinks there's one or two in one of my "cable" boxes. Give me a few days to dig for it.

CARC paint;how to remove-yet another question...

Although I have no first-hand knowledge (that's my disclaimer), I was told by a guy that dabbles in MV's A LOT, that if a guy is not in a hurry, plain old fashioned brake fluid will loosen darn near any paint. It just takes days and days. Maybe weeks. He assured me, it will lift it, but it is...

What parts are you looking for?

Work on the baby HEMTT grinds to a start.

I must admit I haven't checked this thread for awhile. I am more amazed than before. I built a "funny-bike" ( a drag racing funny-car, only it's a motorcycle) all by myself, from the ground up. Frame, body, brakets, etc. That was an undertaking I didn't realize until I got about half way...

    Looking for RT-524

I DO know the guy. I HAVE bought from him. I WOULD (and WILL) buy from him again. I have never heard anything bad about the guy.

    New Project AB-1309/TRC

MOTHER OF GOD. For a handful of years I have searching for a M762 or a M116 with a 30-40 foot tower. I hate you.

    Cost of sandblasting?

Thanks for the replies, gents. I actually have two guys within about 3 miles from my house. Just like car dealers, some people swear by them and some people swear at them. I wanted an idea of how expensive it was going to be BEFORE I walked into the storm. I might wire -wheel the majority...

    Cost of sandblasting?

I think this is where I should put this. I just fell into an M116A2 trailer rather comfortably, and a frame off resto is in order. It is in dire need of a baptism under sand. I have never had anything of this size sandblasted. How much can I expect to pay for the bed to be attacked (both...

    crew cab AND bobbed!

Ok, slappin' a HEMMTT cab on a 5 ton was mentioned....anyone ever try that? We can get HEMMTT cabs relatively cheap, and I think the steering linkage would be the biggest hassle. Like I said , 5 ton and duece chassis are a'plenty to work with.

    M54 parking brake issues.

I recently lost my parking brake. I got underneath and discovered the inner brake lining is gone and the outer brake lining is loose on the rivets. Real loose. Luckily the drum is fine. I went to the local Meineke muffle/brake place and tossed it up on their counter. I asked if they (or...

    crew cab AND bobbed!

I am tossing around the idea to bob and crew-cab a 5-ton (or duece). I cannot decide on which combination to go with. We have both duece and 5 ton (including 5 ton tractors) rigs available for donors. Moving the rear axle is a possibility as well. Any ideas? A relatively well-known person...

    crew-cab AND bobbed!

I am tossing around the idea of building a crew-cab,bobbed duece. Actually, a duece OR a 5 ton. We have both available for donors, including 5 ton tractors, but cannot decide which way to go. The crew-cab part is a sure thing, it's which bed/frame combination. Maybe even moving the remaining...

    New member from Idaho

Welcome to Steel Soldiers. I think we are up to about 5-10 Idaho members now. I happen to be the current president of the Idaho Military Vehicle Preservation Association-about 40 strong. We would like to welcome you to one of our meetings. PM me for the details. I'm in Caldwell, about a...

M163, M113 bolt on side floats

I have never heard of or seen an official bow for a Goat. I have read where a barrel (or barrels) would be tied around Goats in order to help them float, but the extra drag it created all but negated any forward trust the wheels could produce. I don't recall anything in the TM's. How about M114?
