....waiting for somebody "in the know" to chime in and tell us that Tatra was first...I don't know when that brochure was made and "new" could be in the '80s......
BTW, engines offered includes Cummins and Cat...
Here is "Baby Tatra" with Cummins engine.
If S&S had gone with this design, it...
RE: Re: Tatra, more questions
Watching the many videos on youtube etc, it looks like the Tatra gets a lot of its performance edge from locking differentials (and, of course, drivers with a death wish) and not so much the independent suspension, which often shows a wheel in the air without...
You are way off the mark, I'm am simply interested in finding out how they are built. I love comparing technologies, expecially when they are hidden for whatever reason, political or whatever. Look back at my questions.
I have asked questions about these vehicle for years and only now am I...
Great job Tom, always interested in different solutions!
Was going to ask about the back-up in case the engine shuts down and found the answer above. Is the electric motor automatically cutting in when the pressure drops? Would that motor/pump be suitable for an engine pre-lube system?
What is...
Sorry, yes I do take it personally when extraordinary claims are made, just check that KRAZ 255 thread about "airing up in seconds". If questions aren't asked, we'd be left thinking that the CTIS on the FMTVs must be of really poor design.
My background is engineering and if you have read any...
RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Kraz 255
Thanks, much appreciated, it confirms my calculations (approx). 1kp/cm2 is about 14 psi and 2,000 rpm is not exactely at idle, so we are talking some time for this, which I think is a biggie.
Wonder how well the system works at subzero temps, the valves may become a...
Re: RE: Cold Weather Starting
A battery warming pad works well too, but needs 120VAC.
The intake manifold heater (flame heater) may have some issues and can't be relied on especially if your engine is turbo equipped IMHO.
If you resort to starting fluid, use it sparingly in small puffs and...
Re: RE: Re: RE: Kraz 255
I tend to agree with that, diesel is pretty hard to ignite when cold. The multifuel engine has a high compression ratio to help and will start on cold diesel without aid down to 10°F or so....
Re: RE: Re: RE: Kraz 255
I know this is getting old, but nobody seems to come up with and answer, be it American or foreign CTIS, how long does it really take?
I can calculate the time based on compressor capacity and size of tires and we are talking minutes, perhaps 15 to 20 minutes to cycle...
Thanks Tom.
The unit in the image I posted above is only rated 16,000 BTU for coolant output and is P/N 10914540 ( not a commercial P/N). It's for the LDS465-2 engine.
Operating off road on steep slopes with a low level of fuel will cause the in-tank pump to suck air on occasion and the engine will not idle nor start normally. With the dual tank system I'm able to transfer the fuel to the smaller tank and thus increase the fuel level....just passing on, to me...
