If it's just for looks, keep the flame heater, it was the original cold weather aid.
I would recommend that you plug the lines so that any possible fuel leak into the intake manifold is prevented.
If the fresh VO (not WVO, which is used/waste) is available at a good price, that's the way to go. I believe some "gas" stations in Europe now sells straight VO, farmers like yourself with their own gas stations. :-)
In truth, the biodiesel making process is not that environmentally friendly...
RE: Re: 5 Ton Power Steering Question
Found out that hydraulic fluid labeled AW32 actually has a viscosity rating equivalent to SAE 10.
The recommended fluid appears to be "Premium Tractor Hydraulic Fluid", which has an equivalent SAE rating of 10W-20 or so.
It's used for transmissions and...
If I had two, I'd put one in each exhaust manifold section and have a reference as well, if readings are not the same, there is a problem. Also the response time is much faster for pre turbo....
Lloyd, realistically, there will never be enough for everybody to run 100% VO.
A small amount (5-10%) added to the regular diesel is a good thing, it adds lubricity, improves combustion (it contains oxygen) and reduces emissions.
WVO is acid and will erode away metal in time. Biodiesel is...
I lived in Florida, North Miami, Ft Myers, Melborne for a total of ten years and never had a problem with the heat in the Summer except when being in the open sun. The air temp was never bad. The house in North Miami was shaded by big trees, oak and avocado and I didn't even bother turning on...
I'll get a new one, this will just be for a test drive around the property, off road and dirt roads and 5-10 mph max.
There is no measurable out-of-round on the parts (plus or minus .001 inch with my caliper) and one needle will roll easily across a slightly inclined plate of glass. The truck...
Thanks again, I'll get the dimensions.
Question: Will I suffer eternally in mechanic's he** if I installed the original bearing caps, they are still good?
For educational purposes only.
The 5-ton m656 and xm757 have the same length frame, so that it's an easy swap to go from 5th wheel to cargo bed, manufacturing wise anyway, the extra space on the tractor version is used for cargo space. The "dromedary" platform is about the the size of a plywood...
Here is a little blurp on it in the PS magazine:

Thanks fellows, it was a given that I'd learn something. The TM does state to discard the cross and bearing caps. :-)
The numbers from the TM:
U-joint repair kit: 2520-00-045-7425 ("00" added since the book is prior to '76)
Bearing and cross: 11602400 (19207)
There are non-readable numbers on...
Got a couple of questions about rebuilding one of the 8x8 drive shafts.
a) Can I buy just the bearing cups for the "cross" or do I have to get a whole new unit?
b) Are the freeze plugs standard for the Spicer drive shafts, the one used here is 2.00 inches in dia?
c) Know a good source for...
It's apart. :D
Brought it to the automotive shop in beautiful downtown Meadows of Dan and asked Wally for a little help. He put it in his press and after a few snaps releasing the pressure, it came apart. "Just stuck" he said.
Looks like there may be some minor surface pitting on some splines...
RE: Why not...
Patrick, use two gensets, one for equipment that can handle the voltage/frequency fluctuations and one (smaller) for sensitive radios etc.
BTW, your analysis above is the only way to really solve a problem, to first define and understand it. Keep up the good work.
As far as I know, the interior should follow the exterior if done correctly. With 3 or 4 dolor desert exterior, "Sand" should be the interior color. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
