So I ordered new glow plugs from HPG and they arrived today.
Concerns:
- They arrived all together in a sack.
- They don't look very "new"
- Some of the wrench flats are rough like a wrench slipped
- Some of the plating is coming off
Pros:
- They are all 3/8ths
- They all test...
AAR:
35° this morning and the truck fired up easily.
- Before the block heater (and at 45°) I would have to make two attempts to get it running while pumping the pedal like I do in the M1009 (not cycling the GPs because I hear that's bad).
- With the block heater it starts just the same way it...
Very low mileage M1165...
The block heater seems to be there. Is it usable once I clean it up? Is that a standard block heater plug, and where do I get one? Just a straight plug-n-play or does it need some sort of controller between the house current and those pins?
I finally get to post in this thread.
It's plated and legal now. Still several odd jobs around the vehicle that need doing. Rides good other than the feeling that the wheels aren't completely of a necessary round shape.
I solved my rear-view mirror problem. I'd picked up a windshield mounted mirror but I don't want it on the glass- visibility is already too limited.
I used an aircraft clamp to mount it to the first support bar and it works perfect.
A popular joke in the C141 community goes like this:
What's the difference between the C5 crew members and the C5 engines?
The engines stop whining when they block in.:ROFLMAO:
Is there any possibility you're hearing the turbo?
Get the winch on some sort of plate, then attach a stout hook to the plate. Wire it with a slave connector. Then you can use the hook to attach it to any of dozen different rings and tie-downs on the front or rear.
Bear in mind I'm not convinced it's the solenoid, but yes, it's easy to replace. Pull the screws for the cover and it should be easy enough from there to figure it out. Mine had anti-tamper torx heads on the cover, some do not.
Very true. When my solenoid failed and cost me $400 for a tow, I checked it and it did click, just not every time. I believe mine was a heat related failure, so it worked for a while when cool and failed when hot - leading to the point where it gave up the ghost and was failed all the time.
If you want to see the bottom of the human depravity and absurd self-rightousness barrel, watch a few episodes of Hard Core Pawn. Same plot, very different "customers".
As somewhat of an amateur myself, take my suggestions with a grain of salt.
First, how do you see yourself using the vehicle?
Just putt around town for the cool-factor? Pretty much any of the trucks on the auction will do once you get the work done.
If any highway driving is involved (like...
Something to remember when using sealant- read the label. Seems simple, but you might find the label telling you to let it cure for 24 hours before exposing it to the transmission fluid. That means you leave the pan empty until the next day- something to consider if you have the truck half-way...
