should start with the rope no problem. crack the line at the injector and hold the decompression valve and pull till you get fuel out of the line. tighten the line push in the decompression valve and pull the cord should start unless you have bad rings or internal damage

If you decide on the automatic transfer switch you would still have to manually start the generator unless you install and purchase one of the kits offered from sellers on this site
As Guyfang has told many folks and with lots of direction on this site. The TM's are your friend. Parts manuals and instructions make it easy to follow along and saves a lot of time waiting for answers in most cases.
That T and hose go to the Radiator drain look back up at LITD's picture. You have the line going from the petcock on the front of the engine but not the other one
