98G, do you get any better performance with the 395's on the 5ton? The 14.00's on mine are at about half tread so I've been looking for the next set. As you said 14.00s are drying up. As I said, I don't like the g177's & I'm worried about the extra weight with moving to 16.00's. I haven't had...
Just what they used at the time. I'm not sure is the singles even existed at the time the 939's where in development. Duals have they're uses. As stated before, you have 5 spares. The rear set can be used as an improvised winch if need be. I'm guessing that tactical thinking changed & that...
In my opinion the g177's suck off road. I had better luck with the old NDT tires. I've been really happy with the michelin 395/85/r20 xml on our deuce. Haven't had the chance to off road the 5 ton with the 14.00x20 michelin xl tires yet. All of those will run better and wear better than the old...
I've got just the thing you need. Crew cab m35a2, with custom bed, MRAP wheels, stereo system, comfy seats. Soon to have an lds-465 with power steering. I'll only need a place to live if I sell it. These things are addictive. You'll start with one thing & end up with something totally different.
There are aftermarket keyed door handles & ignition switches available. Some weld a metal tab to the doors and cab to use a padlock on. I put a kill switch for the power on the floor & simply put the knob for that on a key chain.
I use both a m35a2 & a xm818 for a daily driver. The xm818 more so as I've gotten spoiled by power steering & the m35a2 has been getting a crew cab conversion finished up.. As has been stated repeatedly, the green iron bug ain't the cheapest thing in the world. Be prepared to spend money. If...
As 98G said, find a friend with a tow bar. I spent $250 for a two mile tow on a m35a2. I bought a tow bar the next week. I would hate to see the tow bill for Arlington to Carrollton. Cost as much a a truck maybe. There are may friendly helpful members here in the DFW area.
I'm putting a deuce bed on a xm818 in the next few weeks, or next week. I'm stuck on length though. Cut down to 9' or remove the the spare 14.00 & tool box to leave it 12'.
I'm still in for 6. Going to try and be down there friday. Not sure on what we'll be rolling in. Blasted m818 has been giving me fits lately. Definitely the deuce though.
Used 9.00-20's all are mounted on stock deuce wheels. $40 each. I've got around 20
Lds-465-1a in a container. Complete with starter, waste gate turbo, generator, etc. It was running when pulled, but it's been sitting for a few years now. $600
Ldt/lds shipping container. Used $150
Used ldt...
My herd (6 maybe some friends as well) will be there. Will be bringing 2 trucks. Not sure if the roof on the quad cab will be done, but it'll be there. Towed with a 5 ton probably. Do we have a for sale or trade thread going on? I've got a mess of 9.00-20's I'd really like to be rid of.
Got the bed done, or mostly done over the last few days. I still need to do some patch work here and there, but that is a minor thing. Was going to do something more normal looking but it turned out that a lot of the front of the bed was rusted out. So this is what I ended up with after I cut...
Also, Got paint today as well. Like I said, the color is out of the norm. Same color that I use on rescued and restored German helmets (another hobby, the things on can find on craigslist for cheap). It's a German color that was either early war or late. I've never remember which. But we like...
Finally got around to starting the bed, & my oh my what fun. We used 4x4 pressure treated boards. I measured the locations of the rivets in the frame & marked the lumber. Then used a 7/8 spade bit to drill the pockets for the rivets. Went down about an inch. Things lined up quite nicely. Then we...
