Hummer H1 uses an aftermarket fuel filter assembly on his expedition off road rig.
Eric only has about 300,000 miles on it. After-all, it’s just a filter.
You need to also check the usual culprits. Fuel lift pump, fuel line directional valves, clogged sock, water in fuel.
Starting the FFS thread.
Thread of the unexpected, the unwelcome, the less than enjoyable. Feel free to join in one and all.
Todays slice of Heaven… Simple job gone bad.
In my case, rear axle removal gone sideways on my 1995 Hummer.
I need to remove and replace my rear axles with the correct...
Have you held 1/4”? It is stout.
IMHO, go to a wholesale place and actually put your hands in this stuff.
I was skeptical at first. Then I listened to Hummer H1 and Eric was correct. 1/4” Aluminum is solid stuff.
IMHO and advice given with respect.
A $100-$300 Harbor Freight or Ama$on...
I am getting confused by the terminology that you are using. With a standard EESS/PCB, when you turn on your vehicle and there is automatically power to the glow plugs, that is normal. If it never turns off that power, that is abnormal.
The function of the added second solenoid is to close when you press a button in order to power the glow plugs.
If you are currently powering the glow plugs at all times when your vehicle is on, that is why they burnt out.
Super happy you have used my schematics AND super happy you are doing this DIY. That is what that thread was intended for.
Thanks for joining the growing number of DIY box makers!!! Better than spending buku bucks!!!
I always prefer when people DIY instead of ask me how to purchase.
Relay for glow plugs needs to be bulletproof. If it gets stuck open you are farked. That means the relay should be 24v, with 200 amp or more.
Relay should be “continuous duty”.
STRIP THE BOARD!!!
As someone who has performed uncounted number of rebuilds for personal use and sale, that board needs to go to make room for the second solenoid.
That circuit board is about as useful as tits on a fish.
I purchased 1/4” thick Aluminum and made rock solid half doors. No need for soft door frame support. I used an angle grinder but plasma cutter will be faster.
Things are bullet proof.
My friend Eric HummerH1 added tops to similar units to make full doors. Super robust.
Get the removal tool for swollen unit. For broken tips, pull the injector and blow air from glow plug hole. Or reach in with handy flexible grabber extractor.
On new injectors… liberal antisieze.
Rebuild the box. Seems like an epidemic recently.
I posted about this years ago, and worked on a workaround with the help of many others.

Welcome to the madness.
I’m beginning to look at weird options for future fun.
RWH will be correct in stating these things are unnecessary.
The current a/c compressor in HMMWV is mounted where the civilian alternator is mounted. Got me thinking about dual alternators for emergency with all electric compressor mounted...
Depending on your state, DMV can make a new plate. They can actually make a 17 digit plate if you handle it correctly, depending on where you live. There are several YouTube videos on how to do this when you do not have a serial number. Usually this has to do with people buying restoration...
