Thanks, I wish it was just the locker. I only have a rear locker. And it was definitely coming from the front axle. I was experiencing this while air down to about 55 psi on a gravel forest road. I only experienced the clunk in mode/ low range with the transmission locked up. Not in high range.
Jack stands, I welded a flat plat to the bottom for soft surfaces. Also wood blocks I keep 1.5”x 11.25”x 11.25” blocks multiples. Typically with a flat tire the bottle jack doesn’t have enough stroke to get the tire off the ground and you have to put a jack stand under it then block the jack up...
Not sure what you’re asking about overall backlash? Ring and pinion back lash or what?
I’ve had the locker in for 6 years and I feel this is something new.
Yes I jacked up the front axle and turned the steering and rotated the tires to grease them just before this year’s trip in January 2024. Maybe more grease.
I have a 2003 M1078A1 with high speed gears and a rear locker. I’ve owned the truck for 8 years. In the last year we’ve traveled over 20,000 miles I’ve used mode countless times. The last few times when in mode for off road use slight turns left and right I’m getting very obvious clunking from...
After balancing my drive shafts and new unjoints. I still had vibrations changed tires and up the psi it went away. When mine was still an M1078 I ran 85 psi up front which stopped the heavy wearing of the tires. 65 psi in the back yes I had to disconnect the CTIS and do it manually. I feel...
Sorry but if you want safety stay home in the bomb shelter.
Myself I choose adventure and thats were my M1079 takes me. I do try to be as safe as possible by typically driving under the speed limits. But I drive it until it doesn’t fit down the road. Get out and enjoy our beautiful country...
I found seats 5 years ago with arm rest on eBay that came out of a dodge caravan, they were the second row passenger seats. I’m guessing there is a company that makes the handicapped accessible vans and they take the seats out of new vans and someone is selling them.
On my last 20,000 miles on every type of terrain and trail I have been thankful that I have a rear locker for the added traction and besides the occasional clunk I have not had any problems or issues.
I change transmission mode to off road which also locks in the front axle and try both forward and reverse until you here a big bang and then you start moving.
Oh I feel your pain. I remember replacing my transmission and the beginning of my build that I posted on here.
Soooo worth the trouble we are currently traveling in ours for about 10 months out of the last 13 months and traveled over 18,000 miles in our 2003 LMTV. If you have questions feel...
Well that idea sucks! 🤣🤣
I don’t understand the balancing part. My simple thinking is just 12 volt to the 12 volt side and 24 volt to the 24 volt side.
Thinking out side the box, does any know of a 12 or 24 volt alternator with a shaft on both ends that we could couple the other 12 or 24 volt alternator to in line to help save space?
