    flywheel help

P.S. A fywheel installation stud and a clutch alignment tool make the entire job a LOT easier/safer/simpler. Matt

    flywheel help

The TM calls for the bolts to be oiled, then tightened to 80-90 lbs ft, then tightened to 115-120 ft lbs. I didn't oil mine, so added the requisite 10%, according to the standard torque values chart. I ran an "S" hook and a ratchet strap to the frame to keep the flywheel from rotating while I...

    No Retainer?!?!

ken - 49927 is the part number. Ran me about $104 with shipping. It was cheaper to order online than have it ordered to my local store. serp - that "aluminum lock ring" is the seal retainer that I am missing. That's the mystery of this whole thread/topic is that I have a different design than...

    Snow plow recommendations

I know... I am just pointing out that the deuce axles are closer to overload than say... the 5 ton axles, where each axle could handle the entire weight of a deuce. Also, there's got to be at least a couple good reasons why the military chooses to use 5 tons and Humvees to plow rather than...

    No Retainer?!?!

As an update on the mysterious flywheel housing - The part number stamped on the housing (45-1040252) corresponds to the NSN (2815-00-247-7011) listed in the LDS-427 parts manual. SO... looks like I might have an LDS flywheel housing, even though all the manuals for the 427 show that it uses...

    No Retainer?!?!

Some notes/comments on the rear main seal replacement: (sorry for the length and lack of pictures) I went with the more pricey NAPA seal, the one made of Flouromaster. We'll see how that one works out for me. For pulling the transmission, I ended up disconnecting the winch PTO propeller shaft...

    MI to GA

Excellent idea, Bjorn. I will post those the "No Retainer?" thread in the Deuce forum. We might not have internet during the trip, so I will surely be providing a play-by-play once we get set up in the hotel in GA. Matt

    MI to GA

Rear main seal is done... got driver's side W/C mirror on, but the passenger door hinge pins are being jerks. We'll see about that... Movers will be at the house a week from today to pack up and take most of our stuff, and then it's off to GA!! Matt

    Snow plow recommendations

Keep in mind that with a multifuel engine and a winch, the front axle loads are way beyond what the Reo designers originally planned on. Not to say it can't handle it, but adding a plow to boot - might get interesting. Matt

    A second FDC, why not

Wolfmangk- Read and re-read the posts covering this. A multifuel with a bypassed FDC is still a multifuel. Matt

    blinker not blinking.

RE: Protectant Lee- I wasn't timing you this time, but good hustle! :-) Awhile back I remember Bjorn saying that he hasn't written too many articles since joining the site, so I was pleased to note his contribution to this month's issue. And, I just wanted to make a plug for both the author...

    blinker not blinking.

RE: Protectant Man- I wish there was an article in some sort of military magazine, explaining the finer points of grounding in military vehicles..... Matt

    What engine is this?

RTFM!!!! Read the "following" manuals: We made it easy, and have them all, here on the site! They are in the "Technical Manuals" Section in the lower left. Bypass oil filter with heater

Do you suppose the filter should be mounted on some sort of gimbal? That way, if you are off road, you don't risk heating the oil with the vent blocked. Matt

    No Retainer?!?!

Crash - The seal is pressed into the bellhousing (in actuality, it is the flywheel housing, but I think everyone knows what I mean), with the lip facing the appropriate way, per the TM. We pulled the seal out, and I will try and get pics up of what the bellhousing looks like, sans seal. DM- We...

    No Retainer?!?!

So, the following pictures should help illustrate my conundrum... The bellhousing that the manual shows for the LDS-465-2 is the one that is closest to the one I have. Starter is on the passenger side, the motor mounts are not integral to the bellhousing. However, even the pictured bellhousing...

    No Retainer?!?!

Will- Normally, a 6 bolt retainer (into which the seal is pressed) is bolted to the rear OF THE ENGINE. However, it would seem that the my retainer is the entire bellhousing. Standby... let me get some pics from the manuals... Matt
