One thing that you might not have heard of: when you can get to it from the back side, if you can back it up with a copper bar, it will allow you to run hotter and get a lot more penetration. It also acts as a heat sink to remove heat from the metal.

It's hard to figure out anything without some test adapters that allow you to tap into various wires. Everything is sealed and out of sight without them.
I think you'll find that sandblasting, especially with a small gravity fed rig, will take longer than you have on this planet. A needle scaller will do a much quicker and better job.
