    M715 resurrection

CUCV 6.2 with HMMWV 24 volt IP and electrics, Chevy SM465 4 speed, Stock (leaking) NP200, stock axles, 11.00-16 XL's, Corvette master cylinder... It was a fire truck that wasn't very well maintained, so hacking it really isn't an issue. Plus, everything I modded can easily be put back to stock...

    M715 resurrection

My first MV has been deadlined for right around 5 years now. I've tried a few cheapskate fixes before without any luck, but things are finally starting to come together for the old bird.

Ample ACC power with this unit.

That extra fuse is in case something pinches the feed wire under the hood. If it doesn't have a fuse or breaker right at the battery terminal, the cut/broken wire will short on metal and cause all kinds of bad juju.

New Guy from Ohio with 1985 m1008

The locking hubs are probably sticking. Take the hubs apart, then clean and relube everything. Make sure the parts look good, reassemble, and give it a try.

    HMMWV Honeycomb Wheels/Tires...

If they can deliver a decent ride, I'd be on board. But I'd have to think of a good way to keep debris out of them... Can you imagine the balance issues when half of that thing is packed solid with mud or slushy ice?!

    m101a1 wheel conversion

I don't know if the -A2 hubs are a direct swap, but it might be your best bet. If not, swap in a whole 101A2 axle set and be done. (or just get an A2 trailer) They use 8-lug chevy wheels...

    2011 GA Rally Radio Comms

6 miles... That answers the question I was about to ask. What's the weight on one of those bad boys?

    2011 GA Rally Radio Comms

Just having a little fun! ;) Maybe one of these years we'll find a use for all the field phone stuff where radios won't do. (Hmm, no need for batteries in the TA-1's...) And I think you need to start stocking up on wire. Looking a little low there! :D

GA 2011 Rally After Action Report

Communications - We had a green HF radio out on most of the trail rides that was able to keep reliable communications back to camp, and even made contact with amateur stations in Europe/Russia. There were a few dead spots on the hardball convoy, but developing a proper frequency/band plan next...

    2011 GA Rally Radio Comms

Remember that I have a general class ticket. We just had too much fun to take the time planning for band changes on HF! We'll have all that planned out for next year, and it'll be 100% better. S'pose we should set up the field phones, too? We might find ourselves hanging miles of cat-5 in the...

Official 2011 Ga Rally multimedia thread

It was a great time as usual. This was my first rally without my own truck and I still had a ball. Next year the 715 will be ready to fly, and m' little hound dog might just come out for some trail riding, too. Pics might take a bit. It was a borrowed camera...

Official 2011 SS Ga Rally Info thread

Gimp and SW called and said they left Cinci around 1pm, and should be swinging by to pick me up in Decatur sometime after that. ;) I can finally confirm that I will be there. My meager gear pile is stacked up by the door ready to be thrown aboard at short notice. Look out, mama bird...

    2011 GA Rally Radio Comms

I just cut a 6m mobile whip for the mag mount (quad/4 magnets) and I have a small 12v battery-in-a-can to power the ic 706, but I don't yet know for how long. I can also switch out whips for 2m and 10m/CB as needed. (not very convenient) And I have a few 30a power supplies and portable HF...

Official 2011 SS Ga Rally Info thread

Once I arrange a parking spot, the 818/129 combo will be dropping by. It's frowned upon to park in the grass at the house, and I only have one car/pickup-sized parking spot available to me. The only reason the 715 isn't here as my daily driver is that my last 6.2 motor took a dump on me just as...

Official 2011 SS Ga Rally Info thread

To be honest, I still have tons of unloading and organizing to do and probably won't be able to get away until closer to the weekend. Probably thursday at the earliest.

Official 2011 SS Ga Rally Info thread

I'm just getting settled in at my new shack in Decatur, and it's starting to look like I CAN make the rally this year. All my M-trucks are stuck in OH right now, so I had to borrow my pop's highway orange pickup for a while. What are the chances of hitching a ride to Duhramtown in a green...

    Glow plug threads damaged

Marine Tex... I'll keep that in mind. I've put the JB Weld to some high heat before, but not heat and high pressure. We'll see how it holds up soon enough. On a side note, I used JB Weld and not JB Quick since the original stuff is supposed to be more durable. Just thought I'd put it out there.

    Glow plug threads damaged

I've used the ford spark plug repair kits before. (a LOT of people have!) My dad's "retired" highway truck has blown two spark plugs out in the last year or so. Luckily, it didn't rip the fuel rail open and cause a fire. And still no recall, as far as I've seen. Ok, so I've decided to replace...

    Glow plug threads damaged

I have a total of 6 engines laying around in various states of repair, so a spare head isn't a problem. The glow plug hole in question is right out there in the open... An easy fix, if the thread repair would hold up to the 400 psi.
