LIke all things in life, it depends on your situation. For general starting on a semi regular basis non-standard batteries will work. I plan on running the 6TL's due to their stand by capacity as I run radios without the truck running and need the extra juice.
I was swithching the base to get as much out of the unit as possible. Matching is not as much of an issue on Rx as Tx.
I have it so I'll use it. It will most likely sit on one freq since the 6m band is so narrow with these sets.
Thanks!
Hey Folks,
I looked and looked but maybe I'm missing something. I'm trying to set up a VIC-47 in my M1009 back to original or close enough. I have two AS-1729's and would like to know how well will the second one work for the R-442?
I know it matches frequency wise, but I've seen in the TM...
I love the idea, but I'm not willing to lose my mil spec mounts. I was hoping the final version would mount the uprights at the top of the side plates to keep the antenna mounts as is. It depends on your particular needs/wants. Good luck with the project!
I run Goodyear DuraTracs on my Jeep. When its time or I can' stand it any more, a set will be going under my '09. This will be after the axle swap of course.
Good Luck!
Wow, this thread is amazing! I'm just reading it for the first time today and I must say, the two of you are going above and beyond!!
I'm now the proud owner of a M10-Oh'9 with, sadly empty radio trays. I'm in the process of purchasing an R-442 from a SS member and will follow this shortly...

Troubleshoot according to the TM. It's all there you just have to go through it in detail.
I had similar issues with my '09 when I got it. Clean contacts, check the volt meter and Alt 2 relays and any other wiring you can get to. Just cleaning the various electrical connections worked...
Looking forward to the pics.
BTW. Can you keep this all in one thread?? You have three going already when only one is needed. Interested parties will be much more able to follow you. M2C

Just did mine today. For the money it is very cheap insurance. I'm glad i did do mine. When I took out the stock relay, it was VERY coroded. The preemptive strike wins again!!!
If you want to go down the more exotic route as "nighmare" mentions, you may want to consider a pinzgauer. The later versions were even made in the same decade as the '08 and '09's

Another Unit Marking
My front bumper passenger side reads 42I-50 SBM
My front bumper drivers side reads B-17
From the research I've done it means 42 Infantry, B Company 17th vehicle.
I would like to know what the "50" and the "SBM" represent to get more history on how the vehicle was used...
I've been running silver stars in my jeep for over 2 years and have not seen any degridation in the light output. I switched over to those after burning up my headlight swith in the dash after installing an H3 conversion.
I HIGHLY reccomend if you go the H3 route you install a relay kit to...
