I agree, higher pressure would be nice. I just worry the radiator/oil cooler may not be made for it. Las thing I wasn't to do is blow the radiator tank up... then I'll be even more cranky. haha.
I have the heads off now. I think I will do what 74M35A2 suggested and do his magnaflux kit...
It did seem to use coolant. These are NOS heads that I bought. They should... "should" be perfect. Thank you for asking your friend. I dont know if if could still be a head gasket? We never saw any signs of leakage though... anywhere.
How does the engine run now? I put new piston kits in my engine and topped it off with NOS heads and I am still having a lot of blow by. I dont know if a NOS head is cracked or what. Im stressed and just wondering what parts you put in yours and if they are the same as mine. Thank you.
Well we got the heads off the truck tonight. We as in my Dad, 74M35A2 and I. We were hoping to find some head gaskets damaged, leaking, etc... but we didn't find anything. Nothing out of the norm. We didn't find any signs of leaking. The cylinders still have the cross hatch and do not appear...
I am in the process of putting a new clutch in my truck as well. I have the 3 finger stamped pressure plate and 6 puck ceramic clutch disk. Ill drop the flywheel off to be machined today and I have a new ring gear on order as well. My ring gear was chewed up in a couple spots which explains why...
I have to go recover my M1061A1 from my parents house 540 miles away. This spring Ill be driving out there to go get it. its just safer and I love driving the deuce. So its all good.
What did they get for mileage on diesel? I know, I know, if you ask you cant afford it. My guess is around 3? Just thinking what an M818 would get and tacking on a little less...
Do you think using permatex copper spray gasket sealer on the head gasket would cause it to leak? When I put head gaskets on it the first time, I put them on dry. I don't know if the spray gasket sealer messed something up or not?
This is where air lockers seem to be a little nicer. If I had a better need for them, I would put ARB ones in my truck. Right now my driving is 99.9% on road. Sad, I know.
I dont know of any storys with the ARB ones leaking. What is the price difference between the two? I guess both have pros...
Who replaced your heater core? Tell us how good it works again. When are you going to put the fuel fired heater in? I have $110 in those two brackets you made me buy! ;-)
The piston/liner/rings came shipped to me in sealed individual packages with the piston installed in the sleeve and the rings on the piston. They were not ordered separately, rather as a kit. So they were assembled in each other when I opened the package. This tells me they are the correct ones.
I searched my pictures and found a couple pictures of the old pistons vs the new pistons I installed. These came in boxes with the NSN on them and everything. They were advertised as LDS pistons. Note the new piston on the right only has 2 compression rings where my old LDT piston on the left...
I can't see how it would be a cracked block. I wasn't losing water before the rebuild. Besides, the cylinder walls are sleeved (which were new with the pistons) so that wouldn't make sense to me anyway.
The heads were NOS.... not reman. They were brand new in the box and were the late style...
I can't swe it being a cracked head especially since they were NOS when I put them on. I strongly believe the 17:1 pistons were a different shape and did not have the dish in the piston that we are used to seeing with the multifuel piston. The early 20:1 compression pistons were in early...
