I agree about the importance of properly adjusted brakes. However, you are otherwise confused. The front brakes have the same force between the drum and show and travel the same distance. Same wear.

Near as I can tell, my gasser hood is the same as the later multi version. The side covers on a gasser are tapered whereas the multi are straight to allow for the taller radiator/ grill.

You should really join one of the tractor pulling forums to see what it takes to build high horsepower; and then back it off a bit. Easier than finding things out on your own ($$$$$) through trial and error.
