I have had both the civilian and military 302s and, while I can't verify 100%, I do believe that there is no difference in the pan rail. I have had good luck making my own gaskets from silicone sheet. The cork always seems to leak.
But Continental/ White/ Hercules, etc did produce these engines for farm tractors and prime movers for generators (diesel and spark ignition). Somebody certainly knows the engineering history and I would bet that the military knew of a change order.
I have pulled several OA331 and several multi. In fact, I pulled an OA331 using a cheap parts store engine crane. Not going to do that with a multi. I stand by my prior comment.
The LDS wastegate turbo clears both the stock and gear reduction starters. I can say with reasonable certainty that the 3LM466 is physically smaller than the LDS wastegate turbo and should fit fine. It may even be a smaller flange size.
I have found that engaging the flame heater briefly before you crank the engine results in a noticeable response from the engine in wanting to start. I realize that the "TM is gospel" folks are going to have a fit but I see no reason why this is bad practice. I otherwise would probably never...
Don't all of the 4" turbos have the larger diameter inlet (same as the outlet of the deuce air cleaner)? I checked my emails with Memphis, it was for an M35A1.
A fair bit more than my brother's truck; a lot more than my truck. Don't really know what is normal. Typically, you would check crankcase pressure with a manometer; if excessive, followup with a compression test.
