Ground anchors
Sean - I had the same thought, they are very similar in function to the British set up for ground anchors (though actual construction is different - pressed plate with holes and folded shackle ends vs cast), however I'd like to know what Ron was refering to. Perhaps they were...
...so does it come with a bigger rubberband to cope with all that extra tire! ...and extra driver training to stop the "hooo raaahs" from tipping them over?
Went to S-W today, guy said that number is a unique to customer/store reference, the only way it can be of help is to provide the store location/ph# so that my S-W guy can call your S-W guy and talk specifics. NB - that number in my S-W store relates to a specific commercial customers funny...
Just to clariffy a point here, has anyone ever tried to wind on beyond the single grooved layer? Is there room between boom and jib?
There was another post thread which stated that even "real" cranes (not wreckers) have grooved drums - for the first layer, but then wind on hundreds of feet...
Should be a fun project....
Naaahhh - only if you tell people. I mean, it's hardly like they reinvented the wheel every generation now - is it..?..!
I won't tell if you don't
What we (in the States etc.) just missed:

Nice collection of tanks, trucks and Jeeps etc. Inc Pacific, 2 Wards, Diamond T n Rogers + High Speed Tractor, Mack NO, Sherman, Weasel ..........
also other vid's of WWII re-enactors and vehicles in the...
Chain drives
Yup - I was unceremoneously informed of that when I told my mate about the truck. But thanks very much for the added clarification - at you told me what I was incorrect about - not just that I was wrong!
None the less, what is to become of the crane...?
Cheers.
Insurance sorted!
Having originally got a written quote for $68 a year from JC Taylor, they rejected the application, sent everything back with a letter saying "Oversize trucks and trailer tractors are not eligible for our program" though when I questioned the next paragraph: "Please resubmit...
Sterling HSC 330 also ran the same rear end - they made heavy wreckers (15 ton) for the Navy in WWII. I stir the pot a little to see if the parts are helpful, I know someone who has both a Sterling and a Pacific.
Not to throw a wet blanket on your "thank you" party, but for the uninspired, uninitiated and altogether misunderstood, can someone point me in the dirrection of matching the fine examples of numbered colors to an era, conflict, camo pattern, TM or elsewhere that would let me know which color is...
Chain n tree
NB. Put a block of wood in the "C" part of the bumper so that the chain 'loop' doesn't dig into the flanges, it will also stop the chain from slipping... If you need the bumper to go up a little, then the tree end of the chain needs to be higher than the bumper or 'viki verki'.
Yup - all out on the floor. Awaiting wirewheel, flap disk and acid treatment. Not sure how I am going to derust the middle of the body tubes - that's a long way in.
The screw part is hand tight on all four - that's a result in it'self.
What pics did you want to see?
I think the truck looks...
Yeah thats a pretty simple fix - as said... little tug with a chain from a tree/another vehicle...
Mine on the other hand, dents in the front flat part, rope "burn" and split on the radiused lower middle section, drivers side bend: stressed overbent/nasty crease - restraightened'ish - way over...
May be the way to go 'till you realise you really do need that 5th wheel, but it will give you time to see if you can accept the higher bed...
On the other hand, I think I would slot the bottom/front of the bed, so that the it slides past and around the fifth wheel, keeping the outsides and...
OK, so I found out the hard way what the little strips of flat stock held in place with two 3/4 bolts are for just above each outrigger...
I had thought that they come out a whole lot further than they are supposed to! Nope - just to the end of the taper, like the TM pic - however one of the...
Yes Ron - you are correct, but a quick snip would sort that out! Conversion to 819 rear leg ends with seperate plates/pads would be the smart way to go, otherwise the larger 3D shape of the pad and leg would be awkward to stow.
I'm guessing that there aren't any Gasser or Multifuel 5 tons with 'Tube n Mesh' grilles and that 'Tube' grilles on M800's are the norm - from the factory, with stocked spares of slat grilles being used up as and when later damaged 800's needed a new one... Making it a legit mod.
Inlight of...
Out of boxey experience
Havent wandered out to the truck to check this idea, but it may be possible to locate the long boom legs under the bed, one either side along the chassis rails, hung on brackets. This is where the M1A1 wrecker (Ward) stowed the ground spades - slid in from the back...
