Keep going Big Jeff
So - locker/stowage confusion can be debated elsewhere - one thought though, the TM revisions (black bar in side column) may have not totally been technically edited for subsequent correlation when changes ooccured....
BUT, we should get back to post thread and keep the...
so below deck but above the wheels?
Not sure... just did a cross ref of the BII list to the locker diag, somehow I think there is something missing from the equation - things don't make sense..
Thanks Ron.
While we are on the subject of more lockers - what was the intent of the TM layout that doesn't match the vehicle?... Perhaps a design change was needed but never implimented....
I have always loved these "Continental" tread parttern tyres, treaded bar gips - best of both worlds!
But has anyone else tried a Gooble search for "Vintage" "Iron""MA" or even "Vintage Iron Truck parts"!!!! Hmmmmmpf! so, give us a clue re their contact please...
Wrecker mods..
Big Jeff - you go for it. I'd love to have a load more locker space on my 816. I'm used to the European syle military wreckers that have a ton more storage and all accessible from the ground. Fully accessorised with specific hooks and brackets to hold individual addapters...
Tired of patching my 'tube n mesh' grill I noticed in an old post an earlier style grill on a M816 - is this a "factory" left over or a later inservice mod or a civi 'upgrade' (since it's more solidly construction)? I notice the vise is also different.
I'd like to have a similar grille/guard...
Hard to tell 'less I see it or you see a 1290. There are a few other models covered by that manual - slightly larger and also the 4x4 versions. Yours is the "newer" version of mine with the tip forward hood and higher positioned headlights (also in the manual), but looks the same for...
I have a manual for my 1290 Case (David Brown) which includes your model - not for sale as I need it, but if you need any info I'd be happy to scan and forward any pages / sections you need 'till you get your own. Have parts, operators and maintenance manuals. Go to the local IH/CASE dealer or...
... and if you use those wheels in the UK, you will drive miles from place to place, have 'construction' 500 yards ahead but buy petrol in litres!
Then there is temp.... when it's cold, temps relative to 0C (freezing) seem appropriate to me, yet when it's warm I think in terms of 80's and 90's F!!
Try 3 sets of "spanners"
Metric and SAE you complain - well some of us who have certain periods of British vehicles need a third and fourth sets - 'Whitworth" which is similar to SAE but not interchangable and "BA"... used for a lot of electrical components!
Tried to 'splain metric to my...
That is how it is in the -10 diag though I don't think the reproduction scale makes that clear. I haven't hooked up a 12v +ve yet on my two cAt batteries yet, but that would be the way I'd go... Though I think I've read else where on here that 12v would be better obtained from an inverter...
I love engineering/welding/fab'in but 'lectrics - not so much. So if someone can check this - it may un-muddy the waters a little: but what to do with all those spare links!
Ground Anchors - non "boat" type.
What ever happened to the 'Steak and Anchor' type that were once BII for wreckers and detailed in the Field Manual 20-22?
Does anyone know when they were dropped and what replaced them?
Yup - I know, not much flaming good in a swamp...
Too moore batteries
I too run only 2 batteries - though I listened to those that used the trucks in anger and who were authorised to do inservice mods... So when I went to NAPA, all I was armed with was the dimensions of the two battery boxes. I took the heavy equip/truck book from the behind...
Thanks Ron, I am fine on the operation - which I tried but it doesn't do anything.. Though I thought it was press switch then depress foot pedal...
I guess I hadn't looked hard enough! '20 .. Which section - Electrics (didn't see) or brakes?
Thanks a million for that tip - when I get it...
side pull from front winch
Re-man in steel for side pull great idea if planning on that need.
Consider though, the front winch is only designed for self recovery - generally done in a straight line or not much from it (or anchoring for rear winch recovery), so the fair lead is absolutely...
