Loose wire on the solenoid, failing solenoid, crud or something kept the starting from evening sitting against the block? I'm just throwing ideas out because to me it seems something isn't right with the starter unit itself. Pull it back off and ground test it. Verify the Bendix is moving all...
I was just suggesting you verify power is actually getting to the glow plugs. While you are doing that, Ohm out the plugs themselves to verify they are still good.
30 seconds of cranking is going to kill your starter motor.
White smoke on the diesel engine means there is fuel but not enough heat. You wrote that the glow plugs were replaced recently. Are you sure they are all getting power?
I would suggest pulling the access panel and figuring out exactly what is stopping the glass from going all the way down.
I had one where an arm of the regulator was hitting a bolt and it wouldn’t go all the way down sometime.
Another with the end felt felt so bad it was in a wad keeping the...
Technical Manual TM9-2320-289-20 appendix F diagram F-1 is the stock starting circuit. That diagram shows the purple/white wire is the signal from the ignition switch. The stock relay then sends power to the purple wire which is bolted to the starter solenoid. There is no blue wire.
I would...
As stated in both the threads you searched out and brought back to life. The under dash relay on a stock truck is where the 12 and 24 volt systems meet. It isn't needed in a pure 12 volt truck.
I would suggest tracing the wires you have. What ever wire is on the small terminal of the...
Probably an air leak somewhere in the fuel system. Cracked hose or fuel filter most likely. How long did you try cranking after it died? One of my trucks will do that every few months. 10 seconds of cranking, sit for 2 minutes, repeat. Normally fires back up again after the 5th or 6th attempt.
Yes, just swapping the top covers will get you 24 volt military or 12 volt civilian/CUCV set up. All of the GEP engines I have seen have the protected 5 sided safety Torx screw on them. Be aware a special tool might be needed.
Here is the best listing of the part numbers to tell you what you...
Glad you got it figured out. After I wrote the above I went out and looked under the hood of my m1009 to make sure I had the wire colors correct.
Something about the back of the drivers side alternator didn’t look right so I touched the bolted on red wire. It moved. So did the stud in the...
I am not sure what you mean by wired plug and plug on alt.
There is the plug plug on the side that has 2 wires. One is always battery voltage and one (brown stock, white with replacement plug) that is 0 key off and battery voltage key on.
There is also battery voltage on the red wire that...
The 6BT is over 1200 pounds fully dressed out. A 6.5 is about half that. Have some mercy on your front axle and kingpins.
$800 is a great price as mentioned in the post above. Buy it and flip it.
Also know that the NV4500 had a specific bellhousing for Dodge and a specific bellhousing for...
I have used Motive screw on adaptors for other vehicles and love their products. I have not used their adaptor for the Chevy. I have though used several different Snap-On adaptors which look exactly the same and they all leak. 2 chains just don't disperse the clamping enough. Read the...
The 6.5 is an indirect injection engine. Horsepower is not what IDI engines do. They run great, awesome low rpm non turbo reliant grunt, good mpg without turbo help and with a turbo have the ability to push a driver back in the seat with a gleeful yell.
I’m not trying to make this about me...
6.5 turbo quick facts.
1994 GM side mount turbo with mechanical injection pump.
1995 - 1999 GM side mount turbo with several different turbo sizes and an electronic IP.
2000-2002/2003 GM 6.5 turbo in vans had a block made for a center mount turbo with oil supply and oil return casted into...
I had the same issue that was fixed a few months ago. Just the new O-rings on the pump sure make it seem like it runs stronger. With the Viton rings so cheap and kits available from surplus stores and all over E-Bay. I now consider this a normal maintenance item for every 10 years or so of...
I did misunderstand. You just want to plug the sensor hole in the radiator? Just buy a 1985 K30 6.2 coolant level sensor and be done. They are cheap.
If you want to have an engine oil temperature gauge. The best place to put the sensor is on the side of the block above the oil cooler ports...
