The nose cone of the starter is different on the direct drive starters for manual or automatic. The manual has a huge opening for the Bendix and the automatic has a very small opening. The automatic nose cone will not allow the starter to bolt up to a manual flywheel equipped engine. Since...
The 6.5 is the same external size as the 6.2. They bolt in just fine. The stock TH400 was available behind the 6.5 from the factory and handles it well.
Forgot the picture.
I went down the road last night and recovered my still one piece belt and returned it with the alternator to O’Reilly’s today. Both had to be ordered. I should confirm all is well again tomorrow.
I had a really weird drive home yesterday. Jennifer and I went to Cabellas about 70 miles away. About 20 of those miles were done at 80 mph on the toll road with that speed limit. 2300 rpm, 3 psi boost, 700° EGT and 198° coolant to hold that speed in a pretty hefty head wind. All was good in my...
There has been a guy selling square body inside the frame down pipes on eBay for a while now. I think a body lift has to be done as well.
Don‘t forget the crossover pipe fitment as well. Bolted up unmodified the front drive shaft hits it. The 6.5 turbo trucks were driver side drop independent...
If you are looking to put a Duramax fan on a serpentine belt 6.2 or 6.5. My suggestion is to get one of the heavy duty fan/clutch kits many of the 6.5 parts sellers offer.
However, none of the 4 bolt flange clutch mount clutches will make the best use of the new bigger fan. To do that you need...
If you are talking about H2 17 inch wheels with the 35 x 12.5 tires which I think are 315/75 in metric speak. If you have normal Chevy 8 lug axles from a 3/4 ton or 1 ton. Then, the answer is kind of.
The wheels fit just fine. The tires will not at stock height without a lift or cutting the...
You should be good then. A porch chair cushion over the radiator and grill guard will help with mid section bruising. Stand on a stool, not the grill guard as well. This job is basically one looooooong one arm pushup. An impact with impact sockets make it a breeze.
I have taken a lot of these intakes off and have yet to find one where rust is an issue with the fasteners. Using an impact to remove the nuts from the studs is better than slowly turning the nut and stud by hand.
The intake is there to make the air go through the air filter instead of...
You probably have the worst case scenario. Cracked injector line end. Or a severely scores IP flare fitting. Either way. Time to pull the intake and remove the lines yo inspect.
No O-rings on those lines. Just a metal flare that has to be perfectly clean and tight. A crow foot on a long extension from the rear will let you get in there to snug it up.
If it is already snug. Then loosen a few turns and try pulling the line back a bit to let the fuel wash away any...
I also have done it with the intake still on. It wasn't pretty, but it can be done. Maybe some slight bending that will need to be returned to original getting the new one in. It has been a few years. Just cut the old one to get it out.
Yep. Parking brake is my guess as well. I have done it 3 or 4 times in the last 18 years. The brake band is so saturated with gear oil you don’t notice the slight drag until it all burns off. Then the Hand Of God reaches down and stops you in a hurry with lots of smoke.
Both direct drive and redux starters are very easy to rebuild. The HMMWV -20 TM is a great resource with step by step instructions on how to do the redux.
Yes, under voltage on the starter will do tremendous damage to it. I did almost the same thing years ago. Only a slave from a running 24 volt truck would make it turn fast enough to start the engine. But the starter would be too hot to touch for more that a few seconds afterward.
I didn’t write enough in my response last night.
Yes a not working or not wired up cold start advance solenoid will cause a puff or two of dirty white smoke and an engine acting like it is mad you woke it up. But, at most it will last 20-30 seconds when the temperature is above 40° out. One of...
White smoke that is greasy normally means cold engine. Puffy white smoke means coolant in one or more cylinder. Pull the radiator cap while the engine is running and see if you are getting signs of combustion pressurizing the coolant.
The museum hasn't put up next years schedule yet:
