I sold my Westach gauges and decided to get VDO ones instead. Here is a pic of an enclosure with the VDO Vision gauges. The VDO gauges come with lights, and are not all plastic as the Westachs were. The Pyrometer kit comes with a 12' thermocouple too so that was an advantage over the 4' that...
cbrTodd has new (never mounted) 12bolt MRAP wheels.... I THINK they all have runflats, so SLIME is probably the safe bet. I guess you can always mount the wheels, start letting air out of a front one and see what happens, if it does have the run flat you should know it pretty quick as the rim...
I am not a tire expert but I decided to not use balancing beads. I was checking out some of these wheels that were broken down and still had the runflat inside it, but their was all sorts of black tar/grease stuff coating the inside of the tires, PERHAPS its part of the runflat system (like a...
No kidding, I've worked for a couple defense contractors. The government is great at 1 thing.... spending money! After all an Elephant is just a Mil-Spec mouse!
okay, I made some more of these and some changes as well. Sounds like a some people wanted just a single gauge and some space for auxillary switches. Also found some nice LED lights to use in place of the Military indicators which allow me to put a custom label on. I have access to a laser...
Obviously you wouldn't flip the front wheels but you can flip the rear ones in leu of flipping the hubs. The wheels have a large center hole about 1/2" wider than the deuce's hubs so they will work with adapter plates in either orientation. There is a link a couple pages back to "mean greens"...
Well I had a sheetmetal company make me 2 metal forms to the below drawing that I'll use to make the new fenders. They charged $25 each. Now I just need some time to cut the stock fenders off.... a plasma cutter would be nice but I dont have one so it may be the sawzall and angle grinder with...
Do you recall what westach egt you went with? Also have you turned up the fuel at all?
I think if I were to do it over, I would probably not get the westach again simply because of all the plastic on it, I'd probably go with VDO
I have a late model 109 that came with the brake light. As someone suggested you just need the switch that will bolt to your existing parking brake, and they have a LED brake light (not cheap though..$40). when you pull the brake up, it just closes the switch and to ground and turns the light...
I wanted to start a thread to both show some new gauges I purchased from Westach and to get some feedback and ideas on a steering column gauge pod/cluster enclosure I am building for the Deuces, may fit the 5 ton as well.
Recently I decided to get an EGT/Pyro pyrometer and liked the full...
M109A3 Data Plate now
Greg made me a couple new plates for my M109A3 w/w. I think these were the first 109's he has done, we did a few back and fourths to get them right. He made 2 of the main plates and 1 Airforce warranty plate for me. He also was kind enough to put my serial number in at no...
Scott (tie6044) has an m36a2 w/w i believe still and andy cox at army6x6.net had a m36a3 a little while back not sure if he still does.

Gimp- I made something similar Gringeltaube's. You are welcome to borrow it if you like. I can unbolt the bearing plates I made from my balancing hub and send them to you if you want to cover shipping. The plates have a shoulder boss that will align them with the hubs. here is a link to my...
I've got one. I just sent him a scan of my main data plate and warranty plate from my 88 Air Force, m109a3 w/w. So you should be able to get it soon if you still need one.
I think you might be right. Gringletaube and I just recently learned that there are a couple different spring seats out there. It appears most are about a 4 degree shim.... but some are 8-9 degree. So the generic method of removing 5/32 (the gringletaube method) is intended for the 4 degree shim.
Hey Bones,
How do you put a lockout on the center axle? Have you found any threads on this? I never questioned it until I actually flipped my hubs and pulled the rear axles. After seeing them I dont know how a lockout would mount, I assume you must need a new axle shaft right? Just curious
Bones, I gave this some thought after your message but just couldnt think of any good way to make new correctly angled (or adjustable) perches for a price reasonable enough to entice folks to buy verses just getting the grinder out or buy the shim kits. But you did motivate me to add this as...
oh, also I've heard of many people finding leaks coming from the manifold heater pump itself, so if you decide to add another valve manual or solenoid to the 1/8" line side, you may want to do it ahead of the manifold heater pump to the 1/4" line going to the pump as I mentioned above.
