Well I don't know if its necessarily for shielding... may be in some instances. I think its more of a clearinghouse for items without assigned vendors. Having NSNs issued (let alone amended) is a PITA from my professional experience working with the Navy on specialized inspection equipment projects.
Here is the item in question:

You will see two Onan listed items. You can reach out to your local Cummins/Onan dealer to...
Optima Red Top 34/78 were the standard issue. I use 51Rs most of the time, as they will fit both 802s and 803s. Find a high quality battery that will fit in the spot and give it hell. You don't need the high cranking amps of larger batteries, due to your location. We need the high amps up here...
You really should replace them both at the same time, with identical units (at the same time, not necessarily what was there before). Just a matched pair.
The TMs for your machine can be found here: https://steelsoldiers.com/threads/all-the-manuals-for-the-mep-802-5kw-generator-and-mep-803-10kw-generator.148871/
I would start by taking your batteries out to a local auto store and have them both tested. If you dont have 24+ volts, your machine isn't going to do much of anything. They can show surface voltage, but can fail under load to almost zero amps. If you have not downloaded the TMs for this set...
I have no seat time with this set, but have you followed this flow chart for the machine (found in the -24 manual here: https://steelsoldiers.com/threads/manuals-for-the-mep-806b.173099/)
I would redownload all of the manuals for your machine here: https://www.steelsoldiers.com/threads/all-the-tms-you-need-to-work-on-the-mep-805b-generator-set.173097/
Each one does different things... lubrication order, operating manual, technical troubleshooting, exploded parts diagrams, etc...
If you are unfamiliar with how the TMs work on these sets, see the info below for your machine:
#2 call out for the MPU
Few pages later in the same book:
Part number on the item you need is MSP675C... which should tie back to Governors America...
Have you looked through the -24P manual for this particular machine, to ascertain either an NSN or a manufacturer number? Would help your search greatly.
If Jaime doesn't have any spare S1s, I do. Good luck getting it going right now.
If your switch is stuck at the prime and run position, you could probably mechanically hold open the fuel shutdown solenoid (zip tie, etc) while using the dead crank to get it going, and quickly flip the dead...
Its possible that Kraus & Naimer can sell you parts... but you would need to reach out. I might have a unit I can cannibalize from here, I would have to look today or tomorrow.
Depending on your acquisition price, an easier option (if funds are available) is to reach out to @wheelspinner. He has/had complete LPW2s in his posession that I believe were looking for a good home. Might be easier to just replace with a working unit and move own with life instead of a...
