I would suggest pulling the axle end off. Then slide the slip yoke in all the way until it bottoms out. Pull it back out 1.5 inches. Mark the slip yoke with a Sharpie or something. Now, while trying to keep the marked line in place. Hole the axle end up and measure how short it is from fitting...
Look above your parking brake pedal housing. You have to mash your head against the brake pedal to really see it. On the top of the housing is a single screw holding a 6 pin ground terminal. All of the under dash ground wires end up there. Take the single screw out, clean it with sand paper...
That is too far out.
I would suggest a new drive shaft tube or if your rear end is sagging some. An Off Road Design add a leaf which will let you move the rear axle forward an inch. An extra bonus is the rear of the truck will get a one inch boost.
NP208/241? The slip yoke is supposed to be 1" to 1-1/2" from bottoming out against the seal with the truck sitting level. What are you at? Anymore that 1-1/2" away from the seal at rest and a new rear drive shaft should be considered.
The cheapest starter O’Reilly’s has makes the engine turn over faster than it ever has. It sure is easy to change starter motors out when the differential bump stop and bracket has been removed. I pulled it during the build because with the one inch add a leaf I figured it would never be needed...
Nice looking truck. That hood ornament has to go though. Just kidding. I had a perfect hood that had the holes for the ornament and just could not bring myself to use it on my project.
I have just been driving and driving the thing trying to make it as dependable as possible for long cross country trips. Yesterday I got the warning.
I teach in a juvenile corrections facility. We have a 20 foot fence around the campus and a sally port gate system to get access. (Historical...
Spicergear did this swap about 10 years ago. Tom had a good bit of fitment issues if I remember correctly. But, it did fit and work great. Search for Spicergear and you will be amazed at the quality of work and sheer ingenuity on display.
When you go to install the new one. Keep your fingers away from the gear teeth. It is a very easy job to do, but those arms are spring loaded and if you fingers are in the way, the gears will win.
The serpentine system is nicer to live with than the V belts in my opinion. However, the dual alternator, 12/24 volt system is kind of hazy with the serpentine set up.
2 CS130 alternators, no problem in a 12 volt system. GM did that with both the single and dual thermostat 6.5 engines...
The vacuum line only handles shifting of the transmission. If it was off, the transmission was shifting into 3rd at about 12 mph which would for sure make the truck feel sluggish with the 3.08 axle gears. Or, it wasn't shifting at all which you would probably notice.
The air bubble bring us...
Is the 1995 a 4wd? If so, then the 208 will bolt up to the adaptor already on the transmission for the 241C. The mount from the adaptor to the cross member might need to be taken from the TH400 truck. I don't know that one.
Does the 1995 have airbags? If so, then the column is different. I...
Is the IP timing line still lined up with the line on the timing cover? If so, unless you used a Snap On lumy mag timing machine or one of the induction pulse converters since the balancer change to reset the timing. The balancer has no effect on timing.
The balancer should not have an effect on how the engine runs. Was the old one separated or something? Might just be a feel thing.
How old is your fuel, fuel filter and air filter? Maybe you got caught with old summer fuel in the tank and cold weather? Or, you put in winter fuel that has a...
Dang Rich. I am sorry to read this. I have wanted to write or call the last few months but figured the hurricane and its clean up had you running too much to sleep, much less think about the truck.
Do you want a bare 6.5 GM block to compare measurements with? I have one here in my class that...
I finally went for a drive longer than 20 miles with the outside temperature below 90°. I have never done that in this truck. Sunday was actually below 80°. AC on, cruise set at 75 mph and lots of hills. Never got over 203°. Just confirmed my suspicions posted about above. I got it real...
I am glad you found something not correct after going to all the fun involved with removing that switch. However, the fan motor part still might be hovering out there. Did you remove the ground wire under the hood from the fan motor, clean it and put it back on? Both ends?
Also, remove the...
How did you load test your batteries? You either have a bad battery, loose or corroded connections or now that you tried to turn the engine over with the smallest wire from the batteries. A burned fuseable link.
Start with checking the batteries separately with a real carbon pile type load...
