Double check that your hubs are unlocked. I had that happen one time. I had one hub locked. I think someone was screwing with me.
How are your tires? New? Worn? Stock size?
Does the vibration/noise seem louder in a turn? Could be a wheel bearing then. Jack the front end up and see if...
They almost look like Unimog taillights like I had on my 404. I don't have a set to measure or I could tell you for sure. They are still available NOS for around $30/pair. Just a thought.
I won this very cool USMC 1986 M931A1 a month or so ago. It was way down in south Georgia so I had the very competent MV restorer, Tommy Craig, pick it up and take it to his place. Originally it was going to be my keeper, but then I found another project :) So, I decided to have Tommy fix it...
Actually, the A1 and A2 trucks were not upgraded A0 trucks. They were new trucks off the assembly line. The initial contract for the A0 trucks was completed by AMG in the early 80's. Then, the A1 trucks were finished by AMG in the mid-80's. Finally, the A2 trucks were finished by the BMY...
If you had ABS, you would have a small yellow light in the lower left corner of the cluster that says ABS. It's not too bad of a system, but I haven't found many that work. There is a tone ring on the left rear axle shaft. Then, there is a valve over the tandems that modulates the braking...
Dexron 3 is what's spec'd in the manual and recommended by Allison. I got mine in a 5-gallon bucket from NAPA. Sorry I won't see it next weekend, but I had a business meeting pop up at the last minute.
Congrats!! Thanks for leaving the A1/A2 trucks for the rest of us :)
I'm glad to see there was a good turn out. I had planned on coming, but we had a family thing to go to out of town. There are quite a few of us SS members in Hampton Roads. We had a drive-in at Mount Trashmore a month or so ago. It was a good time.
Ooof!! Good thing you have a petrified parts truck with a good winch. Thanks for owning up to not replacing the shear pin. It makes another good example of what a bolt can do to a overloaded winch.
As much as I get irritated with some of GL's policies and procedures, I still keep buying stuff because I can't get a particular truck, part, tire, etc... for that price anywhere else. I don't expect a warranty. I always expect the worse when bidding so I'm not disappointed when I pick an item...
You are just trying to get the nut smoking hot to break the rust bond, not to cut it off. A rosebud tip works well for larger fasteners. I've used the gas ax (OA torch) to free up lug nuts, deuce door hinges, 2" pipe plugs in an air tank, etc... It works great. Usually you can give the...
RE: Re: Leece-Neville 100A Alternator
Thanks Jeff. Wow, that is a big arse alternator for a CUCV!
Bjorn, thanks for the pics. That makes sense. It remains to be seen if the serpentine pulley will line up with the rest of the engine.
I got a little work done on the bike over the weekend. Someone had dropped it which snapped the end off of the front brake lever. It also jammed the piston in the front brake master cylinder. I was able to take it apart to get the master working again. I gravity bled the caliper and then...
Bjorn, thanks. I thought it looked pretty straight forward, but didn't want to try and reinvent the wheel. The lugs look a little small compared to some I've seen, but they are a good bit bigger than the lugs on a 100A alternator on a CUCV so they should be adequate. Can you explain the...
Has anyone used one of these to do a 100 Amp conversion on a deuce or a 5-ton? The 100A conversion shown in the parts manual shows a big external regulator and additional wiring. This one has a self-contained regulator and wiring studs instead of a screw on plug. I searched the forums, but...
