    Emergency help with dead deuce

If you ran it dry and that's the original reason it died, you might want to consider changing out the fuel filters once you get it home because they may now be full gunk sucked up from the bottom of the tank. This may also be a reason it doesn't start.

Air O Matic steering TM for parts numbers and installation

The complete exploded parts breakdown is in TM 9-2320-386-24P, section 14, WP 0121.

    Deuce Blown Michelin Fun.

I calculated the spacing for a few candidates for mounting on an M35. The axles are 48" apart. for 14.5R20 (365/80R20): 4.6" -- Stock Setup on A3 for 365/85R20: 3" for 395/85R20: 1.2" These spacings are based on the tire manufacturer's published diameter data. Actual spacing may vary and be...

    Deuce Blown Michelin Fun.

Sorry about the typo. 365/80R20 indeed! For the person asking about tire dates, check here Tire Tech Information - Determining the Age of a Tire. This link explains all about the DOT code on the tire.

    Deuce Blown Michelin Fun.

With 395/85R20, there is less than 1.5 inches between tire edges based on the tire diameter specs and a 48" spacing between axles. Expedition Imports in Vallejo, CA stocks new continental 365/85R20 tires which is the modern name for 14.5R20 in the mpt-81 style. These are 22 ply rating tires...

Generator only puts out 24.5 volts

The book for my A3 says to adjust the regulator output voltage to 28.0 volts +/- 0.2v. If the truck alt is working, the voltage with engine off should be 24 to 26 v and when the engine is running and headlights on, per the TM, the voltage should rise to 28v. If it is still the same or less as...

    New Deuce and some Questions...

Gulfway's only restriction on my A3 is no commercial use. No other use or mileage restrictions. Their full coverage +PL+PD was half the price of others with very onerous limitations (can't drive more that 100 miles from home of record).

Lug nuts (and how to bust your own)

If you use truck air, you'll have to bump/burst fire the air wrench because it will quickly deplete the little storage tank, especially on really tight lugs. I started using the 3/4" electric Robo impact that runs off the truck Nato power connector. The alternator can easily power the thing...

Help-trying to replace my CTIS manifold and.....

There's a brass compression insert on the tube that the nut forces tighter on the tube and fitting as the nut is tightened. There's no issue with the tubing turning with the nut except at some point the tube will kink. There should be no problem using a little wd40 of liquid wrench to...

Water to air intercooler, Charge air cooler, Aftercooler...

Waste gates limit boost by sensing compressor output. There would be no point to sensing compressor input as it is always at atmospheric pressure. Some waste gates dump exhaust before the turbine to limit the compressor speed and in turn boost. Other systems dump compressor output to keep the...

Water to air intercooler, Charge air cooler, Aftercooler...

As I recall, there's a pressure activated servo on the turbo that acts asa waste gate - right? If you do achieve the cooling of the air through the cooler, that means the boost will drop, keeping the same mass flow. It's boyle's law. Unless you also increase the outlet pressure of the turbo's...

    ATF for M35A3

My bad! I just looked at my truck and it is indeed a 1268. I looked on my parts sheet I keep and that's where the other number came from. Thanks for the catch. The internal number is correct because I have he old box right in front of me.

    Insurance problem!!!!!!!!!!!

30 seconds on google solves that problem. I heard of Gulfway on this forum last December and did the 30 seconds of in depth research and had a policy 2 days later. Also, using the search on this forum will provide many, many links to Gulfway.

    NiCd battery for starting

Why NiCad and not Nimh? I fear that with such heavy current and frequent, but shallow charge cycles, you'll have significant issues with NiCad memory, higher internal resistance and resulting lower current available for starting which then makes the problem get progressively worse. NiCads...

    MCAS - Miramar Air Show

Might just do it. Need to see if I can get my new rubber by then. Can't drive it until it's replaced. Those 17 year old rotting Super single michelins are death traps. If not this year then next for sure. I go to the miramar show every year and of all the shows cross the country I've been to...

    Insurance problem!!!!!!!!!!!

How can this be? USAA refused to insure my stock MV (after they quoted a policy) and when I threatened to sue, they then tried to broker me out to Progressive as a commercial vehicle for about $1000 a year for just PL/PD with excessive restrictions, like no travel more than 100 miles from home...

How do you guys charge your batteries?

Uh, I hope you mean that you first disconnect the mil cables and THEN use a jumper cable to tie in parallel. Otherwise the jumper cable directly shorts out at least one battery and make a great arc welding demonstration and maybe also a hydrogen explosion demo as well.

    A3 air steering assist regulator

There is a quick and easy trick that may fix it. Try putting a little airtool or marvel mystery oil in the inlet to the drag link air line and work the wheel back and forth. The drag link control can jam up with corrosion and kill the system. This technique will also lube the ram too...

How do you guys charge your batteries?

Lots of folks do that for the reasons you indicate. Search the threads on this site and you'll see lots of posts on the topic of disconnect switches, where to hide, etc.
