Ok so my tranny has always had nice hard shifts since I re-cased it a while back. At first it was slamming into the next gear, but new vac lines fixed that. Then it would always give a nice little bump as it hit the next gear. However now the 2-3 shift is so smooth you cant feel it shift, you...
How come you guys are getting all the rain? I have been waiting for a good storm to get my 1009 muddy forever and so far Tucson has only had like 3/4" of rain this year.
I heard it is good to lock them up at least once a month to keep everything "free" but if your running regular roads it is a MUCH better to leave them unlocked as you get better mileage and the drive train doesn't have to do as much work.
I may be able to trade/get my hands on a 14 bolt out of a '93 Silverado 3/4 ton. The guy says it is the latest and greatest in the 14 bolts with lots more webbing for structural strength. I still need to measure to make sure, but I believe since it is 3/4 ton it will bolt in. Anybody have an...
Ok well while I had the front end up to slime a tire I noticed there is a small amount of play in the side to side motion of the tire. I have had no other symptoms of a bad wheel bearing and the lug nuts were not loose. Does this sound like the early signs of a wheel bearing on it's way out...
Well I know a lot of injector pumps need rebuilding and maybe the harmonic balancer replaced but those are both due to age. The no ac isn't to bad here in Tucson but it would be nice.
Ok so this morning I went to crank her up and got a very slow turn of the starter, not even enough to engage the bendix to the flywheel just a slow spin. I tried jumping to no avail and the volt gauge in the cab was just barely twitching when the ignition was turned on. However all the...
Ok so when I bought the truck the gen 2 light is always dimly lit when the engine is idling and is still doing that. But now the volt meter is going to middle of green when the truck first starts and as the truck gets hot it slowly sinks down to the yellow/green line and just barley stays on the...
The gear on the shaft in the T-case it inside the slip yoke housing that bolts on the back of the main case. Remove the rear drive shaft (when you take it out of the T-case side it will leak fluid), take the bolts out that hold that housing on (I think there are 4) and the gear simply slides on...
I did the rinse before I had a chance to read your post, but I removed the hoses and flushed the radiator untill I had clear water coming out of it. I realized after I had it apart the thermostat would be closed but I didn't take it out. I just gave the radiator a thorough rinse with water and...
Lol when I was cleaning the gas tank out on my model A my friend borrowed some and put a aluminum gas gauge in it and left for 15min and when he came back he asked me where I put it and I said I hadn't touched it. Turns out it just completely dissolved. Lucky he had a box of them.
I guess I...
Ok well I got some grease that seems to be the most recommended as the substitute for gaa despite the constant debate. In the LO I sees the cv and front drive shaft need greasing and I cant find the one on the drive shaft. I know the CV needs the needle to grease it but I don't see and hole or...
I searched, but all I could find were debates about what to use no definitive answer. What is in the gaa that makes it special? It seems like since the 1009 is a k5 at heart the civilian stuff should work just as well.
Ok well i was checking the level today as my expansion tank is cracked and noticed that after driving the coolant is rust-brown so I think it is time for some fresh stuff. I don't have a overheating problem so I am debating weather I should remove the hoses and flush it or just drain it using...
So when i go to auto parts store what do i get? This is my first time. Also will it work on the u joints and cv and slip part of the front drive shaft?
