I put the Good Year Duratrac's on my M1008. So far so good but a little pricey.
The thread is here--->http://www.steelsoldiers.com/cucv/62950-time-new-tires.html
2 of them needed a lot of weight.
Yes they do look good Ron, I was hesitant to get Goodyears because of the reputation of them wearing out quickly. You know the saying: Goodyear....Lucky to get one good year...
But I liked the looks and so I went for it. I will monitor tire wear and hope for the best.
Update:
I went with the Goodyear Duratrac 265/75 R16 10 ply on stock 6.5" wide wheels.
So far so good. It did take a lot of weight to balance one of them. We even tried rotating the tire on the rim to see if that would help.
I rebuilt the kingpins and set the toe before i put them on so tire...
First thing I would do is check for broken or worn out parts.
Center link ends
upper and lower ball joints
drag link ends
front spring front bushings
front spring rear bushings (upper and lower)
check and adjust wheel bearings
check spindle for damage.
Also look for damage at the u bolts. If it...
It is a M816 wrecker ..in the back ground.
I've been in this junk yard several times and they clean house and scrap everything every couple years. So if there is something in the bushes, it is a recent acquisition.
I was going to ask about the carcass, but they were closed. I will try to...
I saw this remnant of a truck a couple months ago, and finally remembered the camera. Its huge! Dirt71's truck has 1400-24 tires. This thing has 1800-29 tires. Looks to be the back half only. The Garwood winch is just sitting there.
I broke my 4 1/2" Reed vice several months ago installing a u joint. I was so distraught.....that was one of the first pieces of equipment I bought when I graduated from high school in 83. I didnt even have a garage then. But last week I lucked out, a add on craigslist said "Old vice $60". It...
The heavy duty replacement u joints usually dont have grease fittings. The CV joint has a needle zerk fitting....usually.
When i get a new to me truck, I take out the drive shafts, remove slip yokes, check, lube, replace, that way I know what is what.
While you have it apart.......(these projects always snowball).....I would replace the front spring, rear shackle bushings. The ones in the frame. The bushing kit from Energy Suspension has the ones for the spring too. You wouldn't use them, cause the springs come with their own bushings.
