Anybody ever consider electric over hydraulic?

They'll last much longer if you only put it on when needed. I bought mine 8 to 10 years ago, and I store it in the garage when not used. Still good as new. But then, I don't use it a lot.

This is the unit from Croft:

Is this original equipment for the A2? It sure looks like it, except for the master cylinder reservoir cap...

Yeah I knew about croft, but going new would run me about $450. Would be better if I could find a setup used in good condition.
I might go flat black on the wheels. Then again, this color of green is kind of growing on me. And it's cheap. We'll see. Thanks for the input.

I got the correct cable length now and the parking brake is all installed and working without drilling any new holes or making any modifications. Very glad to have that resolved, since that is one of my favorite features of this trailer.

Yeah, I may do the surge brake, if I can do it affordable. The paint on the wheels is just krylon cammo paint from Walmart. It was less than $4 a can. I figured it was better than leaving them white. You're right about it being lighter than the 34094 forest green. I'll probably order some...
Excellent write-up Lance Robson! At the risk of an exploding head, yes I think I would be interested in reading up on that NSN for the axle... are you referring to a specification document?

Yeah, I agree. The tube diameter, spindle size, brakes, hubs, and stud size all point to a 5200 - 7000 lb capacity axle. It's probably down rated quite a bit for off road travel, thus the "M" designation (military).

Not really. Not to my satisfaction anyway. I called Dexter and they had very limited records. They told me that it was built in plant 11 in April 1984 (that is the 110484 part of the serial number). The 2700 is supposed to be some kind of weight capacity, but I still don't know exactly what...
Some pics of the axle swap
Some pictures of the axle swap. It lowered the trailer ~2.25" going from the 9.00-16" NDT tires to 235/85R16 tires. I then decided to swap to a pair of 265/75R16's that I liked better that are pretty much the same height as the 235/85R16's.
Has anyone found a source to get the proper part number in the correct length for the M101A2?

Or have you figured out how to shorten the cable sold by Saturn Surplus to the correct length?
