    Rear Axle Trouble

In my experience the gov loc is pretty transparent if the fluid is good. Occasionally under load on turns I'll notice it a bit. But even that has diminished since the fluid change. And it works locks up tight as a drum with wheel slip. I don't drive with any special care. Just normally and...

That is really exceptional work. Congrats!

    Rear Axle Trouble

Check the fluid level. And use a limited slip additive. Preferably GM brand (even though the TM doesn't call for that.) Try the cheap, easy stuff first. Although reviled by serious off-roaders, I really, really like the Eaton Gov-Loc and have no trouble with mine. Age and condition of...

Would you agree this is what flood damage looks like?

Dust on oil. Normal... My M1009 was at Ft Hood. Filled with that fine Texas dust in the void spaces...

    Electrical problems - AGAIN

It is EASY to forget the service light/blackout light switches! More than once I've been working on the M1009 and suddenly none of my lights work. I think "Rats, what did I screw up?" Oh yeah. I hit the switch with my (hand, knee, tool etc)...

Anyone own a high mileage cucv?

One of my M1009s has turned way past 100K. Maybe closer to 200K. Runs so good it's weird... smoother than my 50K M1009...

Need cab heat for drive home

Well, from a safety point of view, I recommend you rig an inverter (probably a converter and inverter) and run a small electric ceramic heater. IMHO, propane in the cab and combustion in the cab are just not the best ideas... The good news is the inverter will come in handy in the future.

    breaking starter bolts

Hi all. I appreciate everyone's tips and pictures very much. But at the risk of being a real pain, does anyone have pics of these brackets installed with starter? My OEMs starter bracket was missing. I replaced the OEM starter with a gear reduction starter. I ordered the correct part from GM...

    Towing M1008 WITH M1009

It seems REASONABLE that if you take the precautions described, it's feasible and safe. Of course, the lower the speed, the fewer, uh, bad implications of a panic stop...

    Towing M1008 WITH M1009

I think this is a really interesting question and I'd love to see even more good feedback. Certainly the 1008 is a much longer, heavier vehicle which intuitively raises questions. Ithnk the issue of brakes is especially troublesome. But its weight is also fully supported by its four wheels, not...

What insureance do you have on your m1008 0r m1009?

My experience is the same as K9 Vic. I have Farmers and all they cared about was that it was an 85 Blazer diesel...

M1009 Blazer side window with sliding glass

Standard factory slider option. For some reason some m1009s have them. Maybe the later ones... I just bought a set to replace my solid ones. Keep my K-9 buddies cool in the summer...

Can you tell whats missing from this 6.2?

Caution: minor thread diversion... Hey, what's with the protective screen on the intake manifold??!! I like that. Is that aftermarket or should mine have that as well? Feel free to PM me so as not to let the thread go too far astray.

    24v alternator

This thread proves once again there are a lot of talented, ingenious and experienced folk on SS. For this humble civilian, I'm going to stick with my earlier assertion: There's no low-effort, high-satisfaction way to do it. Don't take that the wrong way though; in certain very specific...

    24v alternator

No practical way I'm aware of. As Westech points out, you still have to have a charging 12v battery. And if your stock 2 12v alternator - 2 12v battery system is functional, you'll be able to jump your big girls whenever you want. And vice versa. Something is causing your 12v alternators to "blow."

    Moving an m-60

Is this the tank referred to as "discovered" in posts of a couple months ago? And do I remember correctly that it was fired up after a long period of disuse and used for some exercise? Maybe lighting it off isn't that far fetched...

GP Controller Card Bypass - What went wrong?

I had some fits with a couple of flakey controller cards, but once I got a good one, I LOVE IT... Search the threads for chattering relays. Blood of Tyrants has a neat trick using a diode on the gp relay to ease chattering...
