    Found these in the oilpan

yeah, I thought at first that they were torx bolts, but they're 12pt sockets. So I pulled all my main and rod bearings, nothing bad enough to need a change. The worst one was the one I uploaded the picture and the rest looked good or really good. Guess I'll pull the compressor next week...

    Found these in the oilpan

Ok, I need some counsel from folks smarter than me. I pulled my bearing caps and all my mains (except one) look brand new. The one exception has some wear on it, but nothing catastrophic, in fact it doesn't even look like it has to be replaced. Is it possible the rod bearings could be bad...

Got my first thumbs up yesterday,,,

I've always gotten lots of waves, smiles and thumbs up. Lately every time I go out I've had 1-2 folks video'ing the truck on their phones. I especially like to see the looks on the kids faces when I drive by them at an intersection.

    transmission input-shaft play

I had this exact same question when I pulled mine. General consensus was that the movement was normal and acceptable. I put the tranny back in the truck and have put several hundred miles on it since, with no trouble. http://www.steelsoldiers.com/deuce/60065-wobbly-input-shaft.html

    Oil Pump Removal

A'ight, I stopped by HD on the way home. No crows foot wrenches, so I picked up a package of stubby box-wrenches. Took about 60 secs to get it off. It's all about having the right tool for the job.

FDC bypassed and crankcase still floods with fuel

You could potentially do it w/o removing the HH. The tough part is going to be the small needle in the HH that goes into the end of the actuator shaft. Unbolt the bracket (where the safety wire is) and pull straight out. The o-ring is on the shaft that slides out of the head. If the pin...

FDC bypassed and crankcase still floods with fuel

That's almost exactly how much I pulled out of mine. You can imagine the mess when my 5ga oil pan wasnt really up to the job :(. When I drained the fluid I found some suspect metal shavings, pulling the oil filters and cutting them open confirmed I had an issue. I did finally drop the pan...

    Oil Pump Removal

Cheater. I am resigned I guess to buying a set of crow's foot sockets. I tried the wobbly kind, I tried the crazy little pivoting extender dealy-o, I even tried a really long 1/4" extension. All to no avail. I'll hit HD on the way home and see if I can get a set of the crow's foot sockets...

FDC bypassed and crankcase still floods with fuel

Thats exactly where mine leaks from - the actuator shaft has an o-ring on the end of it. Try replacing that and see if it solves your problem. Here's the size: Actuator O-Ring: .426 x .070 = -013 or 013 (depending on which standard) Out of curiosity, how much liquid did you pull out of your...

    Oil Pump Removal

Yep, the issue I am running into is that the wrench has VERY little swing room from the pump housing to the gear - and as it is a standard box wrench whacks the engine mount underneath the radiator. I think it will probably go w/shorty wrenches, but am trying to avoid buying new tools as I'm...

    Oil Pump Removal

Evidently the oil pump was designed by a 3-armed, ambidextrous, 9-fingered midget, 'cause I cannot get the last bolt off. Any tips/tricks for how to get to the last one? The socket wrench is too long, the box-wrench hits the engine mount, and there is not enough room to get one of those...

FDC bypassed and crankcase still floods with fuel

There should be ZERO fuel behind the cutoff cable cover. When you pull it turn on the in-tank pump (but do not start the truck) and see if you see anything dripping/running at all - that's indicative of a problem.

FDC bypassed and crankcase still floods with fuel

Not sure, I haven't done it. Maybe someone who has can chime in.

FDC bypassed and crankcase still floods with fuel

The HH o-rings is a (fortunately) easy check. Did you change all 3 o-rings when you replaced the head? I've opened 2 IP's, and found the o-ring on the actuator arm to be bad on both of them, and that's an item you may not necessarily service when replacing the HH. The booster pump is on the...

FDC bypassed and crankcase still floods with fuel

Did you check the o-rings on the HH, the booster pump and the flame heater (if equipped)? Those are all possible causes of fuel in the crankcase and all seem more likely to me than a broken injector. Also, I'm not sure where a broken injector would get fuel into the oil system, you would need...

    Recovery adventure today

If that's all that's left - you did good! Not looking for a specific figure, but did you meet your $1500 breakeven point? Wish I would have seen this earlier, and gone after some parts :-?

    First time buyer questions

There's not really a lot on a deuce that is complicated or overly difficult, add to that the fact that there are extremely comprehensive manuals that tell you step-by-step (with pics) of how to do everything from open the door to rebuild the engine. I bought my first deuce, drove it home 750...

Calling all Nor Cal SS members 4 parade

I have a bobbed deuce I would love to bring from Sac. It's currently in pieces, I only have medium confidence I can have it together and running by then. But if I do, I'll be there!

    need help finding WMO!

I put the word out with folks in my community - friends of friends, houses nearby when I see someone out working on their own vehicle, etc . I don't need a ton, 15-20ga/mo is plenty for me so it doesn't take much. Also, do you have a small/county airport nearby? I scored ~50ga from a...
