Me too. I found out that my second alternator was not charging the battery because of the cluster corrosion. Charging better than ever after pulling the cluster and cleaning the printed circuit connections and the sockets.
What is the symptom of a bad check ball? My truck just began to start hard warm. Seems to run fine but after shut off for a few minutes, it cranks a long time to start.
For some reason it seems to start better cold, even with some questionable glow plugs on the right bank.
The early style 12 bolts need to be centered with at least three centering washers per wheel. The later 12 bolts are supposedly self centering if you line up the inner centering hole with the outer one.
If anyone can get these to run smoothly though, let me know how you did it.
I am going to install a single exhaust stack with a weather flapper behind the cab. Just added insurance that there won't be any exhaust opening under water.
Thanks for posting this. Looks good! I am after ideas for my own but haven't taken the PVC leap yet. I'm thinking 4" diameter exhaust tubing bent at an exhaust shop from a template that I produce. I have a NOS intake cap from a Deuce but that's as far as I've gotten.
I've read that it is a good idea. My batteries were brand new military units when I bought the truck.
I drove the truck for awhile last night. Definitely working better than ever! Thanks for the info.
I realize the truck will run a while with no alternator output, but I drive this truck up north on weekends at night. 2000 miles of 200 mile round trips so it must have been charging.
Thanks for the info on what the two different batteries are used for and when.
The more bolts, the more pressures they can withstand. The old 8 bolts were for the lower pressure bias ply tires. However, I've seen folks use radials on the 8 bolts. Keep the air pressure low if you do. Personally I only run 30-35 psi in my radials.
I just tried it again. The Gen 2 lamp is turning off faster after start up every time I check. The volt gauge is over half way into the green. I am beginning to think that the system just started working correctly this morning. Would the truck be drivable with only Gen 1 charging? I've put a...
Not sure if I have a charging issue or not. The Gen 2 lamp has NEVER illuminated on my truck, even during the initial key on/ engine off test sequence. Truck always starts and runs fine, but lately the volt gauge doesn't quite make it into the green zone. Worked this way even after rebuilding my...
If you do not use bead locks or the factory run flats, you will need to find an installer that is willing to seat the bead with flame as the rim is much wider than the tire bead. I used pvc bead locks in mine so I could mount everything up myself and inflate them. I reused the o rings after...
Again, there is a 4L60 transmission and the later 4L60E transmission. You do not need a stand alone computer to run the 4L60 transmission. It has a manual TV cable which is mechanically linked to the throttle. You could use a simple toggle to engage TC lockup when needed.
Yeah, I checked that setup out as well. I think I could do a lot better for less money. I do like your idea of 12v AND 24v Anderson connectors at the front of your truck though.
