    M985 Recovery and Restoration

40 or so well behaved CAP Cadets (Civil Air Patrol) are an exception, normally I only carry family and friends.

    M985 Recovery and Restoration

Hi Dave! Sounds like good methodical progress! Yes, I had new cab height sides made for mine, as I recall about 10-12" taller than stock. They were expensive but fit perfectly. No, mine have no seats built in and it would make 45-50 lb. aluminum doors probably more than 100 lb each...

    Arlington, WA July 2012 Fly-In

I can't see where they will EVER charge MV's and their owners for their participation. The MV's there are a draw for the public and I'm sure we offer the best bang for the buck for Arlington. They provide us with abundant parking, both for MV's and for support vehicles, drinking water and fuel...

    Aftermarket 24V alt voltage low

Sorry boss, not quite true, some batteries are fine with slightly higher voltages and I've heard acceptable levels as high as 29.6V. In school we learned as a lead-acid rule, 13.7-14.1 volts per 12V battery is considered nominal. That would be 27.4-28.2 for 2 in series.

    Aftermarket 24V alt voltage low

If the batteries are significantly discharged the alternator may be working very hard and cannot yet reach 28 volts until the batteries are better charged. I've never seen an alternator's regulator set so low and remember it's only a 65A unit. I'd charge the batteries and try voltage tests again.

    Aftermarket 24V alt voltage low

Are you using a REAL voltmeter or you relying on that old thing in the dash? Try getting volt reading at both the batteries and the back of the alternator when it is running, that will help in the diagnosis. :grd:

    m939 Battery Relocation Kit

I have one too to hold 2- 8D batteries for the HEMTT. I'm going to use them to power an inverter during displays such as Arlington Airshow. I also got a small enclosed military Diesel 28V generator to top up the batteries when noise isn't such an issue. During the evenings I can have some...

    Fort Powells M400A2

With that axle spacing it's gonna be a mother to turn with any load on it. I guess he can make the tongue longer :grd: Still, it looks like a fun project [thumbzup]

    Show us your Military Trailers

Dell, the tires on mine are Goodyear G178 in the size 385/65R22.5. They are considered a supersingle by Goodyear and stand 43" tall and weight 183 without the wheel. John, unless it is completely empty, and even then, a Deuce would probably be inadequate for towing a 989 in either...

    Show us your Military Trailers

Thanks Dave, It does indeed have all the LED's but it is a 2005 trailer so that isn't a suprise. There is one broken marker light but I have a few spare ones from the HEMTT. That power dovetail trailer is one our best purchases. It is REALLY heavy with all the upgrades we had done to it...

    M985 Recovery and Restoration

Hi Dave, I understand about keeping things different, you'll have 3 distinctly different vehicles! I read the manual and found out about the brake release but I used my pickup and trailer to go get it so no huge air supply. I just ended up caging the brakes. The HEMATS are unusual out here...

Jane and I just got back from JBLM with our new little M989A1 HEMAT trailer for the HEMTT. :cookoo:

    M985 Recovery and Restoration

Good boy Dave, I'm glad it was you who got it. The M989 is cool but for my purposes the A1 fits better. I'm going to pick one up this morning, pictures to follow. For our displays and for hauling our camping stuff the low height of the 989A1 makes more sense. I may even see if the Scorpion...

Since it's WAY out back you could have "watered" the tires too!

Cool, nice to know! My deck is 29' so I SHOULD be able to carry 4 in theory . . .

Not an inch to spare, or so it seems. I'm looking forward to Friday and getting mine, if only the rain will stay away.

    battery cutoff on negative wire

Thanks, I think you'll find from the dimensions they are EXACTLY the same switch from BOTH Hella and Bosch. I especially like the 2 pole for 12 and 24V disconnect when upsing a battery equalizer. Thanks again!

    battery cutoff on negative wire

59, that is a fine switch with a 2500A 10 second rating! I use the one just below it with the removable red handle on my trailer, it doesn't have the high current draw potential. I'm going to use the one you had a link to for my HEMTT, thanks!

Ft Lewis Pick Up Assistance Needed!

I'm NOT kidding, no laughing matter with 21,000 lbs of gasiline powered truck with a top speed of 40 mph. Think 2.5 MPG! The crane equipped ones weigh 1-1.5 tons more.
