Yes, a cutoff wheel on a angle grinder. It's not as clean as the pic would lead you to believe, that's why I mentioned I needed to clean it up. I'll probably frame it out with some small angle.
I've gotten to the point now that I just want to see it work and I'll go back and fix the cosmetics...
Got the winch mounted today. Now all I need to do is plumb and wire it up. Does anybody happen to know the fitting size off the top of their head of the lines on the winch?
I still need to dress up the hole I cut into the headboard and some other cosmetic issues but everything is mounted.
The whole surplus market has been moving to more of a retail market in the last few years. With GL's on-line store and the way GP is marketing the rolling stock, they are both going after the retail market.
I know Clinto also made some panels but I'm unsure if he's making them to sell. http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?102266-MV-servicing-a-new-career-path-for-me&p=1725172&viewfull=1#post1725172
Wow, sounds like some tough title laws. In TN, there's no such thing as paying penalties for not registering every year. I've skipped two or three years before and all you have to do is sign a paper saying you haven't driven it in that period of time. As for selling a vehicle, if you've got a...
Thanks for that link Tim. I kind of had something like that in my mind but didn't know if it would work.
My main problem is that I'm going to have bunk beds in the front of my S280. If I mount a window unit sticking out the front, whoever is sleeping in the top bunk is going to be staring right...
Where did you buy said HMMWV? If it came from GovPlanet, they can't be registered legally for on-road use and we don't allow discussions on how to do it illegally.
My original plan was to mount the winch under the bed but even though it had many advantages, after thinking long and hard about it I realized that the disadvantages outweighed the advantages. The main reason I wanted to mount it under the bed is so the winch wouldn't be sticking sticking out...
All the fan clutches I've seen that broke where the fan wouldn't come on, the clutch leaked air like crazy. So I'd say if you clutch itself isn't leaking air, your fan clutch is probably ok.
It's easy enough to test though. As has already been said, remove the air line going to the clutch and...
I'll get some pics.
I cut out a piece of 1/2" plate the same size as the winch footprint that the winch will sit on. The winch will be sitting into the headboard 3" which is about as far as I felt comfortable with to maintain enough clearance between the winch and cab. The winch is roughly 8"...
The best thing to do is go get some tools and jump in.
I'm constantly doing a fab job of some sort. This is one of the rare times I've stopped long enough to take pics.
Yesterday I got the hole for the winch cut in the headboard and the plate the winch will attach to tacked into place.
Yea, looks like it would have been easy enough to convert to diesel.
At any given time, there are probably 100s of small companies trying to submit stuff to the DOD for consideration. Very few ever make the cut for whatever reason.
I've been needing to do a set for probably a year. I just stay out of deep water the best I can and roll on.
My original plan was to have this project rapped up and the shelter finished to go camping on Memorial Day but that fell apart pretty quick. Now it looks like the 4th is out of the...
Well with work and other things getting in the way, this has been a slow project.
Got the center support rollers finished. I finally pretty much have the tail roller finished. I just have to clean up the rough edges and throw on some paint.
Now on the the winch.
I don't know why the M151 "purists" would care. It's up to you if you want to post pics or info but I'm sure me and many others would be interested to see it.
I've heard that some sites will allow previews, most don't.
GP really just wants you to go by their inspection, which is fairly detailed and they supposedly stand behind it. It's also been noted that they will go to a fair amount of trouble to get a vehicle to start and run, which means if...
At the end of the day, they are your tailgates and you can do with them whatever you wish.
I don't speak for all the other posters but I think it's safe to say nobody hates you for doing this. Some just hate to see rare MV parts get turned into furniture and that's just their opinion.
