Silly question but I'm somewhat new to lifts. How do I determine if it needs lengthening? I left it hooked up when I swapped parts and it's still on but the splines are inside the rubber boot.
Before jumping on me, I did a search but didn't find the answer.
I've installed 4" springs and zero rates in the front, moving the axle forward 1". Any ideas on how much I'll need to add to the front drive shaft length?
I couldn't wait for ORD so I went ahead with the front springs this afternoon. I'll have to do the HD shackles when I'm doing the crossover steering and the frame braces. The front was easier than the rear. To move the axle forward I had to drill a 3/4" hole through the heavy cast spring plate...
Well the shackle flip is done in the rear and the shocks are on. The back axle definitely needs to go back so another zero rate kit for the back is in planned. Should net me a little over 5" of lift. I wish I could get working on the front as the correct springs FINALLY arrived from ORD but the...
While researching this, didn't I see your truck on a YouTube video with the mufflers cut off? Didn't like it after all huh? Good to know. Thank you.
Kieth, that makes sense. I guess the guys talking it up have turbos. Thanks for your opinions. I'm leaning toward Matt's suggestion and retaining...
I know that's true for gas engines but I've heard differently for diesels. (?) I'm not looking for more noise in itself, but if the performance gains were true...
Anyone running their 6.2's without mufflers? I have to rearrange my exhaust due to the shackle flip lift and was weighing the options. I've heard uncorking the diesels makes them run quite a bit better but I am new to the fuel oil burners other than in my Kubota.
Thanks Matt. I have checked that thread a few times now but I missed that part. So your rear axle is back 1 1/2"?
I may have some more questions for you when I get to the steering if you don't mind.
Mike
Thanks. Since a shackle flip lift changes how the rear wheel is centered (it is moved forward) I will plan on adding the zero rate kit to move the axle back 1 1/2 to re-center the wheels in the opening. I'll add the U bolt flip kit at that time. moving the axle rearward will require lengthening...
There are plenty of lift threads but I have found something from several different threads that helped me get ready for mine. Installing the ORD 4" lift with rear shackle flip. Seems to be the norm around here but I'm not sure how I feel about the setup just yet. I can already see that I am...
Old thread or not, it's still helpful. I just put the same hitch on my m1008. Two of the pintle hitch bolts go through it and the other two go through the thick plate on the step bumper. The way the step bumpers are mounted to the pickups, I'd have to pull something extremely heavy to have any...
I may not have to worry about the lift or moving the axle. Been almost a month and still no front springs or shackles, as well as the pitman arm. I sure wish I would have gone a different route...aua
