Rustoleum and Krylon make a plastic primer spray that works good.
I used something similar, but forget which brand, to paint some outside plastic pipe about 10 years ago and it still looks good and won't scratch or peel off..
They've come a long way baby with paints!
The 1/2 tons did have the quad shock option but the 3/4 and 1tons did not. I ordered a '82 3/4 ton and a '85 1 ton back in the day and the option was not offered when ordered.

Pre-tinned wire is very nice to work with and also prevents the dreaded 'green disease' from traveling up the wire. Most marine wire is like this, but just a little more expensive...
It also needs to be brought out that for electrical connections to use rosin core solder, not acid core solder...

Can you get your M1008 weighed? If I remember correctly, mine came to just under 5200# and the trailers are rated for 5290#.
Also, remember that their largest trailers are not everywhere, I had to put an order in for one several days before I needed it.

The weight or the towing vehicle? Many times they will not rent unless you have a big enough truck, i.e.. 3/4 or 1ton.
Get the largest U-haul trailer and the M1008 will fit with 4-6 inches to spare, I would double strap it on the front and back axles.

If you do place a valve on the suction side, use a small piece of wire to secure the valve in the open position.
Would not want you to go and operate the hydraulics and find the valve on the suction side cut down or off and fry a pump.
