If the 727 is healthy, it will easily take more than the engine has power to pull. It's the same basic transmission used behind the 426 Hemi, 440 SixPak and other very powerful engines. As long as it has a cooler to keep the temps down I wouldn't worry about it. Now the little 318, stock...
I did read it but the way you quoted his question and then said "yes" it seems as if you were saying yes to his question, which would be incorrect as a small block 727 will not bolt to a Cummins 6BT with the Dodge adaptor plate or not. The Dodge transmissions used with the Cummins are specific...
No, the 727 that mates to the Cummins is a special housing. Same with the later A518 (46RH). The V-10 transmissions will swap but no other. The 727 in an M880 is a small block version that only mates to other small blocks. Since it's a full time 4WD version with a NP203, no other transfer...
Lol, I can take very little credit. It was just some careful manipulation of Google.
See if the owner is interested in documenting the build with a thread here. It would be great to see and read about and showing it off would probably be good for the ego and making the bills seem...
Having done this swap before, I'd also go with a big block. A Cummins is a great engine but it just doesn't have the brute force and unholy noise of a Mopar big block. A 383 or 400 is a much easier swap at times if the truck doesn't already have a small diameter brake booster to clear the...
Elmo? Dammit! Lol. I forgot all about that. Nah, the man with the money behind the off road fab stuff had his first child and decided that his spare time was better spent with that and I can hardly argue. I'm still doing some things on the side and keeping busy though. I drop in here at SS...
Better to ask than go into the unknown without need. Like they say, the only dumb question is the one not asked. But yes, the panel over the flexplate and converter is mainly just a dust shield and is not sealed. The only fluid that will be found there is a little wetness from the front pump...
Keep in mind that your transfer case takes ATF, NOT gear oil. Do not put anything else in it but ATF. I wouldn't worry about the dampness around the shift lever. It is possible to leak there, but I'd say most likely that is just fluid getting slung off the dust shield on the output yoke...
A '70s 3/4 should easily handle the weight and torque of a 6BT as far as the frame is concerned. The front axle should be swapped out for a D60 with the appropriate springs, but I do know a bunch of people with 6BTs in 1/2 trucks and Ramchargers, some even running on the 1/2 ton axles though...
It is an insult, lol.
I just can't see replacing one powerless engine with another. I fully understand that you have a few 6.2s laying around and want to use them but honestly I wouldn't consider the swap worth it for all the trouble to swap it in and get less power than the 318 is...
A 318 is a very durable and reliable engine. They are generally under-built so they don't have a huge output from the factory but they will run forever and usually with problems that would make lesser engines not run. Up the compression, valve sizes and add headers or some better flowing...
Yeah, I'd say the wrecker is probably a 413. Still a good engine, but that thing would need a total rebuild before I would trust it. The second truck looks like a 383 or 400. It's a low deck B series block so that rules out it being a 440 or any other RB engine. '72-'74 will be part time 4WD...
I would pass on that engine as cool as it is. You would need to change most of everything on it to make it easy to swap or gather a ton of parts to fit it. The oil pan would need to be changed, the manifolds, the oil pump, the pulleys and then you would still have to source the brackets for...
I was speaking more about the proportions. I'm sure the cab height is probably comparable to the M715, it's just with the low bed it looks a bit like an antique or a toy of some sort. Reminds me of something like this:
