Took me forever, but I finally remembered the name of this thing. It's called an ELSORV, or Enhanced Logistic Off-Road Vehicle. It seems to be an evolution of the SRATS (Specialized Reconnaissance Assault and Transport System) testing DARPA did and part of the JLTV (Joint...
If I remember right those were built by an off road fab shop for testing as a HMMWV replacement or supplement. They use solid axles and a lot of parts that are off the shelf stuff to off road fabricators. They have been discussed here a few times, mainly in the many assorted "HMMWV...
I'm running 10 oz of Airsoft BBs in my 37s and they work great. You can tell they are out of balance when you first pull off a stop but once you get to around 15 MPH the BBs disperse and go where they need to. Mine are balanced up to 65 MPH and ride very good for such a large tire. They do...
There are a ton of Super Swamper and other Interco tires available. I don't know why you would have a problem finding some.

Similarly there are PitBull Tires, Mickey Thompson makes some nice tires like the MTZ and Claw. You may be limited in sizes due to the 16.5" rim as...
I just bought a set of 37" HMMWV tires from Andy at TrailWorthyFab.com and I have to say the service was excellent. If I can whip up the cash for a set of the HMMWV double beadlocks I will definitely get them from those guys.
Either one will give you a boost in power. The 318 has smaller intake ports on the heads so the ports won't match up perfectly but it will give you a bit more power. Swapping in the 360 will definitely give you a lot more "seat of the pants" feel and it will pull loads around a lot easier...
No doubt. Considering the engines in all of it's predecessors, it could have easily ended up with an inline 6 cylinder, lol.
Not sure if this was directed at me or not, but I'll toss my two cents in. If it were mine, I wouldn't have a problem swapping in a 360. It's still a small block and...
Economy and low cost. Keep in mind that this truck replaced the M715, which was a slow, underpowered dog just like 90% of the other military vehicles build before the 1980s. Besides, the 318 is plenty for a 3/4 ton truck that normally would not have been driven over 45 MPH.
Agreed. The only external differences between a 318 and 360 are the torque converter balance and the driver's side engine bracket. Everything else is generally the same or very similar and the transmission, exhaust, fuel lines, wiring, coolant hoses, and accessory brackets will all directly...
You may want to swap the throttle cable over also as the 4 BBL versions are a slightly different length. Similarly, make sure you leave the throttle brackets on the 360. You can make 2BBL stuff work, but if you have the stuff there to have it work correctly, I'd use it.
You will need to leave the 360 engine mount brackets on the 360 and you will have to use a 360 torque converter or weld the 360 converter weights onto the 318 converter. Other than that, it's a bolt in deal.
Elwenil is not my actual name, just my "Internet persona", lol. My actual name is Lanty. I think I remember your name from the SWVA4W board. I'm friends with Martin from back when I had an M715 but it never saw the road. The only person I know of with a J10 that wheeled on Potts was Earl...
It's very possible. The Potts trail is our local trail and I was up there quite a lot in years past. Can't afford to get up there as much as I'd like now. If you met me I was most likely in a very noisy black '74 W100 with a bobbed bed, canvas cover, stacks up through the bed and was probably...
The second pic appears to be the same type of vehicle in the top post in this thread. Maybe even the same one, lol.
The first pic appears to be a prototype also, possibly a predecessor to the Stryker M1128 MGS design judging by the barrel support but the turret appears to be missing. Any more...
The carter BBD does tend to look like a single barrel at first glance due to the small neck but it's actually a two barrel carb and is very common on 318 engines up until the late '70s.
