    Trouble starting M1009

It is located on the engine side of the firewall, from the brake master cylinder, look towards the passenger side. You should see the 12v buss, sort of diamond-shaped and has a few wires bolted to it. Next to that should be the GP relay. I *highly* suggest you read through the CUCV FAQ sticky...

    Trouble starting M1009

I agree with Warthog. Assuming the GP controller card is working correctly, it sense the voltage going to the glow plugs. If the GP relay is not passing enough voltage through to the glow plugs, then the card will probably leave it energized longer, thus the Wait light staying on a long time...

    brake fluid on floor.

Are you willing to risk your life, and the lives of others, just fixing the one o-ring you know is leaking? Don't cut corners on brakes!

    Seafoam question

I've run Seafoam in the fuel tank, and once in the crankcase before an oil change. The truck seems run better after adding it to the fuel, but the 2-cycle oil makes the most difference in the sound of the engine. I could not believe the amount of goop that came out when I changed the oil after...

    brake fluid on floor.

Yes, it has hydroboost. I'd suggest you take a look at the -20p and -34p TMs, as they will have the GM part numbers that the auto parts store can use to look them up. Otherwise, just tell them its an '84 K5 Blazer. Yes, I know you said its an '85, but all CUCVs are built based on '84 parts.

    Alternators on M1009 voltage

EMP or no, it would not be a bad idea to have spare parts for the alternators. You can complete rebuild kits from cucvelectric.

To use a fuel additive or not in m1008

The 2 cycle oil is to add some lubrication to the fuel for the sake of the IP. The low-sulfer diesel that is available today does not have the same lubrication properties of the diesel that was available when these trucks were built. I add a pint to every fill up, though I've seen some mention...

M1009 Gen 1 issues- im confused

I should have been more specific, as Warthog was. Yes, both alts put out only 12v, but GEN 2 is using the 12v output of GEN 1 as its ground reference. Which is why GEN 2 *MUST* be an isolated-ground alternator. So, when measured from chassis ground to output of GEN 2, you get 24v. GEN 2 using...

M1009 Gen 1 issues- im confused

Both GEN lights should come on when you have "key on, engine off" and go out once the engine is running and the alts have reached the proper rpm to start charging, sometimes requiring a blip on the throttle. If the GEN bulbs are bad, the associated alt will not charge. Remember that the bulbs...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Please don't use starting fluid! See this thread: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?67012-Click-click-BOOM! I would suggest that you follow the glow plug system testing procedure in the TM's, as that is probably why it is hard to start. There are also wiring diagrams in the TM's to...

    M1008 starting problem when warm?!!

I agree with Doghead. One thing to try is to poor some water over the IP when hot and see if it starts. Could be the fuel shutoff solenoid doesn't work when hot. Could try to see if you can hear it click when the key is on... disconnect the pink wire, and see if it clicks when reconnected.

    odd cold start problem

First off, I wish people would not say "wouldn't turn over" when they mean "wouldn't start". "Wouldn't turn over", to me, implies that the batteries were dead, the starter wouldn't spin, or the engine was seized. Secondly, this is the first time I've read of someone fixing a CUCV by removing a...

    M1028 electrical issues

First, test what you have. Figure out what works and what needs to be fixed. The card may be fine, as you saw the wait light come on at least once. The switch can be left in as a backup, if wired as others have mentioned here. Good glow plugs, a working controller card, working temp sensor and...

    m1009 from hundred dollar man

Just remember that these are 25+ year old trucks that may, or may not, have been treated well over their lifetime. Unless it has been gone through from bumper to bumper, and even if it has, I'd bring along at least all the common spares... belts, hoses, fuses, fluids, filters. AAA card, etc. I...

    odd cold start problem

Any smoke from the tailpipe when it doesn't start? If so, what color? My first guess would be that air is getting into the fuel lines. Others have had issues when parking on an incline. Try backing in and see if that makes a difference. You could also replace the short section of fuel line from...

    Speedometer vs GPS

Just keep in mind that this stuff is not perfect, and was never intended to be. Tire size and air pressure in the tires, affecting the diameter of the tires, are the two biggest factors in speedo error. Even tires from different lines or manufactures will vary, even if they say they are the same...

Gen 2 stops flashing when heater's on

It all comes down to alt output and loads on them. Those are just lights, there are no smarts in them. The smarts comes from the operator with the meter. :-P

Gen 2 stops flashing when heater's on

My understanding of how the GEN lights work is that they light up whenever there is a voltage difference between the batteries and the alt output. When the key is on, but the engine is off, current flows through the batteries to light the bulb. When the engine is running and the alternators are...

How to know if my 6.2l is running as it should

I've thought about that as well, but have been worried about getting a cable that is too short. Seems a few here have had that happen.

How to know if my 6.2l is running as it should

I have not gotten around to this yet, but... you can disconnect the speedo cable from the back of the gauge and then pull the inner cable, the part that turns, out of the outer sheath. It will be long and very dirty. Then you can clean it and lube it with atf or some form of grease. Then just...
