Up and down the east coast there are several of the Alliance Tractor Trailer Training Centers like the one I attended in Wytheville Va. If you don't have a CDL or experience driving a large truck I would definitely suggest taking a course. When I went it was a 5 week course for about $5k. You...
Depends on the frame of the trailer and the weight rating of the axles. They look like 10 bolt dual rims so they are pretty akin to a semi trailer which can carry 80k lbs on two axles and they generally run 48' to 53'.
Actually the specs are generally standardized for the fastener size, metallurgy and thread design. I have seen a formula and a few charts for doing this with standard fasteners like bolts but nothing on the size of wheel studs but I'm sure there is a method of calculating the difference. I...
Good deal, Mike! With any luck my Ramcharger will still be running strong and will be up to the trip. I'd better start saving now for gas since 4.10s and 31s don't make for much highway speed or economy, lol.
Good point, lol. And yeah, I mean weld upside down and yeah, it does get uncomfortable. Especially the nice sizzling balls of molten metal that bounce into your ear and make a bunch of noise for a few seconds. I have always wondered why that doesn't hurt like hell but I guess I should be glad...
No idea on the holes since that's not my area of expertise but as far as the crack, I'd weld it, grind it and then put it back together with a decently large plate behind it. Something that spreads the load out about 2" in every direction and then I'd tack weld the plate to the cowl so it will...
Um, why not use a Dodge transfer case? The '94 and up Rams are driver's side drop and it would bolt up. I think the Ford transfer cases use a different spline. I also agree on using a NP205 if you can get one to work, or at least a NV241HD out of a newer Ram. I would leave the 727 right...
True chains do make the tire sort of irrelevant but I was thinking of versatility as in being able to choose the right amount of traction for the job. Sometimes you might get by with no chains or only chains on the rear on if it gets really bad you can chain up all around. Plus I'm sure the...
Hmm, that's a big plow. A Deuce isn't know for wonderful traction on snow and ice so if I were going to do something like this I would put plenty of weight in the bed, flip the hubs to run super singles in the rear and use a modern over the road radial tire all around and chains. Just my .02
No, there were fulltime D60 models. Most 3/4 tons did have the D44HD axle but a few were spec'd out with the 4500lb axle and most one tons had the D60. The fulltime D60 had drive flanges instead of lockout hubs. Here is one in the pic below with the dust cap removed that I swiped from Pirate4x4:
RE: Aluminum Wheels - Super Singles - Bobbed Duece
Please, please, please don't do that to a military vehicle. You will give the poor thing a complex that could end up with permanent damage from.
RE: Re: RE: Re: Tatra, more questions
It may have something to do with the cost of a selectable locker and the fact that "automatic" lockers like a Detroit change the driving characteristics so much. When soldier "A" is used to driving a open differential Deuce and then jumps in one with...
According to everything I have seen, '74 was the first year of fulltime 4WD as you stated. Part time with a divorced NP205 was standard. Even after fulltime became standard on all models in '75 you still could have gotten part time with the NP205 on 3/4 and 1 ton models. They are sort of...
All "my truck is better then your truck" BS aside, if that HEMTT looking truck has the Tatra "backbone" drivetrain it would be one impressive truck indeed.
As long as the W200/W250 has a D44 axle. Some had the D60 which changes the length and some years could be had with part time 4WD which got it a NP205 transfer case and that changes things also. I believe the shaft from the W100/W150 should work with no issues as long as it is indeed a...
This is true, but you have a better chance at getting the good info from them as you do from a guy off the street. I know for a fact I have developed a few bad welding habits over the years since I took the course. Oh, and I forgot, I took courses at the local VO Tech center and also at the...
Hmmm, I don't know. A 3/4 ton dually just seems sort of odd. It is s very nice looking and solid truck though. I'm just not sure I like the dual rear wheels.
I second the VO Tech approach. I did it and I am a pretty decent welder now. The instructor told me I could easily pass the certification test if I wanted to take it, but I just wanted to weld for my own projects. Might still get certified for the hell of it. I think the course I took cost...
