If my understanding is correct, the original voltmeter is a 12v meter, not 24v. There is supposed to be a resistor on the back of it that drops the 24v to 12v, in conjunction with the internal resistance of the meter itself. I suppose it is similar to the way the GP resistor works to drop 24v...

This is exactly the way I want to do the doghead starter relay mod for my M1009. I take it there was plenty of material inside the old relay to solder new wires to, etc? I don't suppose you have any pictures?

Well, I've only read about them, but I understand that they are made of unobtainium and that the Wally World down the road from Area 51 has them on special sometimes. I've never been able to get over there in time though. Wonder if I can put them on layaway?

It is covered in the FAQ. You can either go from the front batt or from the 12v terminal block right next to the relay, which is what I did. Some use a fusible link for the connection. I will change mine once I buy some. In the meantime, I just reused the wire that went between the 24v buss...

This stuff is coated with aluminum, yes? Should we be concerned about its conductivity, especially in the firewall area? I'd hate to see something sort out on it! Other than that, I think this is a great idea, and will be doing it once I get the floor cleaned up, repaired, and prepped. Thanks...

While I have not done this, yet... I think you will need the wiper delay module that attaches to the harness at the bottom of the steering column. I read about this in the threads about swapping in a tilt steering column. Of course, you will probably need whatever harness goes from the wiper...

I agree with you about the grease lasting much longer then the WD-40, etc. You mentioned using lithium grease out of a tube. Is that substantially better then using the spray form of lithium grease? Sometimes it is easier to get the spray nozzle into tight places!

I've been wondering about this myself. I see many people say that you won't be able to jump via a slave cable if you bypass the GPs to 12v. I don't understand this, as the slave cable puts 24v across both batteries... so, does that mean the 12v just disappears? Now maybe it is not as strong as...
