I bought one off eBay a while back, paid WAY too much, but it was NOS and I wanted it. Unfortunately it does not go low enough to hook up to my M1009, but it is still cool.
In a world of $300 ish M101A2s I would think it would be hard to get $200 for a M101A1. The A2s brakes, wheels and tubeless tires make them much easier to deal with. That said, to an unknowing civilian on CL? $350 or more around here, your mileage may vary...
If you can't find another one you can have one made. Take one of your existing pieces to a sheet metal shop, they should be able to replicate it easily. That part is pretty much necessary!
Can I tow this behind my M1009? Will a M105 bed fit on the back? I am thinking about cutting out the turret hatch and removing the magazine so I have enough room for a hot tub in the turret, I can still drive it that way right? Lets see the pix of your M1A1 camper builds!!!
A 5.56 bullet is a little loose in the entrance hole but the case neck will not fit, so 5.56 it is! The bullet was likely a ball round and flattened a bit before exit, that would explain the fairly large exit hole, that and the thickness of the steel. I will try to save the wounded stake pocket...
We use the radios in convoys and parades, it is a LOT of fun, and some day they may come in handy in a serious situation. Hopefully we will never have to rely on them, but it's good to know we can if we need to.
Oh yes, a 5.56 would have more than enough poop to go through four layers of sheet metal. I put a 1/2" crater in a 4" thick piece of steel with a SS109 round, that is way more than sheet metal...
I was stripping down my M101A2 for my camper project and got the front and right side off OK, but ran into trouble getting the left side off, the stake in the middle pocket was stuck. When I looked closely I found a hole on the outside of the stake pocket, when I looked even closer I discovered...
It is an adapter to run a PRC-77 from any 12v cigarette lighter, made from military parts, with a 454 speaker included. I will try to get some photos tomorrow.
If you want INOP equipment you can get some really good deals, however the shipping will be the same price (and shipping will be about the same cost as working gear) , so you may as well get stuff that works. Once you start messing with it you will get addicted to green radios and you will...
I don't believe there are ANY US sources for Clansman Kit! The best bet is eBay UK (eBay - one of the UK's largest shopping destinations), some sellers will not ship to the US while others have no problem with it.
One of the Alamo MVPA members has a Lightweight Land Rover non FFR that he has...
Mine did the same, then got worse (visible in the daylight, sometimes solid red), then the gen failed. Installed a rebuilt gen1, one year later it started again, dim at first then worse, has not failed yet but I fear it's demise is eminent...
