    14.00 Bias tires on M817

I have purchased a pair of bias tires that are Specialty Tire of America CC 14.00 x 20. Does anyone know where to locate more of them? Can one run bias on the front and radials on the rear 2 axles in a singles configuration?

    GL truck sales stopped???

Why is SS closing the threads about GL pulling the trucks off the market in the GL forum section? One would think there should be one active forum post there. I read some say it's due to pollution but I wonder how many will go to Iraq? I will guess no more are going to be available...

"military iron" June 20-22 @ Historic Power Show, Rochester IN

Hi guys! After seeing there was an annual "Spring Dust Off" in Anderson and consequently that it would not be held this year, i asked our local (Fulton County) museum, which is along US 31 about meeting there. There is ample space for camping and visiting or even vending (a military mess...

    Console

Here is my version of a console (inside tool box) for my M817. The passenger seat is changed in the photo and I will be changing the drivers seat when I have the mount worked out, keeping the spring unit. I think these are MRAP passenger seats and that was a military tool box that I cut down...

    m817 transfer case output bearing

Taking out the transfer case for output bearing replacement. Has anyone been into the Rockwell that can give me a link to a thread and maybe a few words of wisdom? Note the transfer case is the only part of my drive train that does NOT look original but has reasonably fresh brown paint...

    5T rear axle seals

I'm about to embark on changing the wheel bearings and seals for my M817. I read the TM and multiple posts from my search but find the issue of seals confusing. I have now purchased the Timken 596 bearings, 593 and 592a cups for all rear axle hubs but do not yet have seals. I have seen talk...

    road truck

Has anyone ever made a road truck from a 5 ton? I mean going so far as to remove all axles and transfer case, lower, no front drive and a road worthy gear set or commercial truck rear end (perhaps a two speed)? I searched differential changes but cannot locate a change like I describe. Please...

    Dump floor repair

My M817 dump has a few dents in the floor of the bed that hold water. At some point, the bed held a lot of water but has not rusted out completely anywhere. I want to do a repair but see no way of coming at the bottom to bring them up. There are ribs that prevent direct contact. So what are...

    809 series front drive

I don't know why I can't find it in the TM...but where is a simple explanation of how the front axle engages and when it engages on M817. I have searched several times and am still confused at how and when the Sprag system works. Out in heavy snow, it did not seem to engage. Is starting in...

    Trailer from cargo bed

Has anyone built a trailer from a 5 ton cargo bed? I have (2) 10k Dexter axles (hyd. disk) with Hummer wheels and tires to use.

    M817 seat issue

I purchased an "In-Op" 817 with low miles. I figured out why such low miles (engine says 83 and odometer says 16.9K). The seat is so far forward that a normal person is against the steering wheel...with it in the back position. So my theory is, it was so uncomfortable to drive that it was...

    M817 Spicer to Allison

Hi guys...just won an M817 on GL and have a question. Has anyone changed to an Alison auto? I really don't like shifting.

    front tires on M923

Does anyone put larger (width not diameter) front tires on a 923 basic? I like the dual 11.00's on the back but would like to change to a better "flotation" tire on the front.

    battery connections

I removed my 923's Hawkers and have installed two 1440 cca bus batteries. (Hawkers going to bench for deep recharging). I had to make new wood for under them and on the sides to keep the terminals out of the seat. But in the re-wire, I lost track of the three wires that connect to the larger...

    Hydraulic dump cargo bed

I want to make a cargo bed into a dump bed and found that my 923 has a hydraulic tank in front of the passenger side intermediate wheel and a pump with what appears to be a mechanical valve. The pump has the u-joint and female spline still intact but the male spline and power take off are not...

    free wheel travel

I'm thinking of making up a set of covers so the front and rear wheels can be disengaged for towing or better fuel economy. The same covers will fit front or rear axles and will make an over the road trip more economical by removing the drive link. Disengaging is easy...just remove the front...

    bobbing a 5 ton

I'm considering bobbing a five ton, putting on air bags... also installing a fourth member link. I would shorten the frame a bit and be making a hinge for a dump bed modification. Please reference any forums that have discussed the subject and I'll read them. Thanks tobyS.
