Thanks. That’s the plan for today. Manual shift it to see what happens. I also am going to do a little fuel pump timing. I have it too far advanced. I never thought I’d own a vehicle that gets worse fuel mileage than my deuces.
I have just, well a month ago picked up an M998 non runner. It was rebuilt in 01. It’s got the 6.5 which I just changed the injection pump on. She runs really well now. Now for the questions.
The trans doesn’t seem to shift into 3rd. Where should I begin? She will do 55 but is screaming at me...
Talk to Jesse at High Angle Driveline. He designed the driveline that was going to go into my powered trailer project. It became cost prohibitive to accomplish. My trailer is 34 ft long. A whole lot of drive line. Good luck.
I just had a similar issue. I used a three jaw puller to get the busted outer bearing off. Along with a Harbour Freight die grinder. I used the air to operate the grinder. Took a while but it worked. Good luck.
I need assistance if y’all could I’d appreciate it. The threads on my passenger side spindle are boogered. Do y’all know what size or where to get a die to chase the threads? Thanks.
I have put over 50,000 miles on my deuce since I bobbed it in 2006. Driven it from California to Florida towing a combined rolling weight of 32,000 lbs all on 105 Springs with welded 4 inch flat lift blocks. No pinion shim. I’ve wheeled the crap out of this truck. Beat on it profusely. I always...
Unfortunately this project has been put on the back burner for a little while. I’ve had a couple things come up that need to be taken care of first. I’ll post when I start it up again.
My trailer is actually 7200 lbs. The A3 did fine towing 19,200 lbs. Round trip of 166 miles. The top speed is 49 MPH. Although that’s the top speed unloaded too. Up hill is ok. It’ll downshift and just keep chugging along. Stopping is easy, I designed the brake system on the trailer. It’ll pull...
Drop the transmission into neutral and shift the rears from either high to low, or shift them from low to high. It seems to work pretty well like that. I’ll use the T case as my gear splitter. Although the only time the spicer will be in anything other than OD or 1-1 will be off road going slow.
Yes I’m keeping the auto. I’ve got a similar set up in my Ford Cabover truck. It’s got a 3208, Allison MT653, spicer 7041 brownie box. It works pretty well.
I am about to start a new project. I’ve just finished an A3 restoration and sold it. Leaving me with a mostly complete A3 carcass. So here’s the build plan. Move the T-case rearward. Add my spare spicer 7041 four speed auxiliary transmission between the T-case and the Transmission. Giving me...
Tomorrow is test. I loaded my trailer on the back. Put another A2 on the trailer and am going to tow it around a bit. I’ve done this a bunch with my A2. Now I’ll get to see how the A3 does with a load.
A3 daily ready
I am now able to Drive the A3 reliably. It took 5 months and a lot of work but I have driven it to work and back a couple times. It'll be ready for paint as soon as it gets warm enough to do it. The brakes are way touchy compared to the A2. The trans downshifting will take some...
I would love to get a 5 ton but in all reality the Deuce just fits me. I like the way they drive and sound. All the little things that a lot of people don’t like about them I love. The smell and feel of them going down the road be it paved or dirt just feels right. So for now I’ll stick with the...
