Re: RE: any gereen iron places in dallas texas?
I recommend the Brent Mullins show. We should have a couple of M-715s and maybe a deuce from our group going. The show is mostly WWII stuff, but there is a lot of it including armor. I live nearby if I can be of any help to anyone.
RE: duece cost
I got mine from a guy who had bought several for the axles. When he found a couple of them would start and run, he couldn't bear to scrap them out. I paid $1500.00 for mine and drove it 150 miles home. Mine is pretty rough, but I got to raid the other parts trucks so I have...
I had wondered about that too. I thought it might be specific to a manufacturer (such as AM General) but I guess not. Littlebob's truck is one of the only ones I've seen set up this way. Barrman's two gassers have the high mounted lights, but they are both winch trucks. My Kaiser is plenty...
Re: RE: It Worked!
Yeah, that's about it. Slow but works great and doesn't spin the studs as you mentioned. The PO who knew everything told us that he always threw them away when they showed up in his unit. He said if you get a bind on them they will hurt somebody. I guess I can see this...
We had thought of torching or shattering the brake drum somehow to free that side up.
Barrman's lug wrench is a planetary drive affair operated with a couple of bars. It works on both the lugs and the inner (squarehead) studs. I was really impressed, it works easily and has tons of torque...
I'd think always check the easy stuff first. The accessory (alt, water pump, etc.) sounds like a good place to start. I had a seized engine in a pickup truck many years ago. It had been running fine but when I went to start it--nothing. I tried push starting it and the tires locked on the...
That thing is huge! I've seen pictures of them in magazines and on Mail Call, but putting Hannah next to one or a HUMMVW for scale makes a big difference. For reference, most civilian semi-tractors are classed as 5 tons.
My deuce had one of these brackets too, I didn't know what it was for until now. Now I really have to have one of the bottles, I've done a lot of research on decon foams.
The decon agent contained in the bottle pictured is DF-200. It was developed by Sandia National Laboratories and is manufactured and sold by Envirofoam Technologies. It is an effective and relatively environmentally friendly decontaminant. It has only been around since 2000, so that is a...
My experience as a former truck driver is that when one battery goes, replace the other one as well and find some other use for it. When you put a new battery with an older battery the old one will fail soon. I have seen this again and again.
I'm glad this came up. Yesterday I was offered the powertrain out of an old motorhome. I'm told it is a Dodge 416ci 265hp engine with auto transmission. Runs good, 35K miles. I don't have a project to put this in, but I'll bet the price is pretty right. Should I bite?
The DOT does not require a warning for these trucks because they do not have air brakes. These trucks have air assisted hydraulic brakes. If they had true air brakes, than a CDL would be required even though they are under the 26000# gross weight limit. The air system is a convenience for the...
I had a similar experience. I had a Ford 300 locked up tight. I pulled plugs and all and I determined that the engine just must be seized. I got a replacement engine, and when I pulled the old one I discovered that a tooth had broken off my flywheel and wedged in the starter bendix. I...
Where did you order the mirror kit from and about what did it cost? My truck had them at one time, it still has some of the brackets, but somebody robbed the mirrors before I got it.
Yeah! Let's see some tech articles about mods we can do. 11.00X20s seem like a good start, but I'll bet there are a lot of little things that will improve economy and performance.
Wow! You set the bar pretty high for the rest of us. I have really enjoyed reading your articles here. I'm curious about the exhaust brake. I just became the proud owner of a deuce (see www.M715zone.com, other military vehicles, Kelser M-70 for full story). I was thinking that what the...
