Yeh they lost all my business when they quoted me a Fed Ex shipping price then shipped it for $12 less using USPS and acted surprised that I would be PO'd about that. They couldn't understand how I might be upset that they just made an additional amount of profit off me or that I thought it was...
Just got back from the Overland West Expo and got to spend some time with Seth, Kande, and Brutus. Believe me that no matter how nice this truck looks in pictures it's 10x that in person. I don't think we could have a better representative for the hobby and these types of trucks.
No need for name calling. My truck runs fine at 58mph all day long and I’ve tow barred a deuce as well but with the 3116 it will not hold speed on a hill, and I haven’t talked to a LMTV owner yet with a 1st gen truck that will. Now add a 9500 pound trailer to that and you’re at a crawl going up...
Not with the trailer. A 2’ elevation change will drag it down. Where I could do 58 with the truck alone it struggled to even get to 45 with the trailer.
Bunch of cool LMTVs here. Adventure Driven has his M1079 here and right next to it is Hunter RMV that has a couple of M1078s with habitats built on them. My wife saw another M1079 in the parking lot but I missed that one. Just call or shoot me a text when you’re available.
His issue is whether it can be imported. In TX if he registers it as a Former Military Vehicle (FMV) EPA/DOT rules don't matter. The state will register ANY former military vehicle regardless of age, weight, country of origin, etc and the 25 year rule doesn't matter.
Better than waiting for the perfect truck just check the classifieds and buy mine :) You'll know it starts, drives, stops, and already has a title so won't have to mess with an SF97
I would suggest anyone considering this fully review your vehicle insurance policy. I found out a friend using a vehicle (not MV) had a serious claim denied because there was a policy exclusion for what he was doing so is not covered at all. Fortunately it was someone else’s fault but had it...
Thanks to all the folks chiming in on this. I certainly wish the information had been available before mine imploded. That’s why I put in back around page 75 for folks to check theirs. At that point there hadn’t been any other reports and I didn’t know there were different types of fan clutches...
Ken, I guess I’m not sure what rubber you’re talking about. It appeared that on my old unit the fan with the aluminum hub was sandwiched to the fan clutch with an aluminum spacer about 4” tall. I don’t know if that gave or the aluminum center to the fan gave but either way it didn’t appear to be...
Anyone remember back to page 70 when I lost my fan clutch? The same thing just happened to Adventure Driven's M1079 only he was much further away from home than I was when mine happened. It sounds like he was able to source all of the newer parts and will hopefully be back on the road tomorrow...
Seth sorry to hear about your troubles. Starting on page 70 of my thread is what happened to mine and our fix. If you're getting a new fan and clutch make sure it's the newer style that the fan bolts onto the clutch not pinched on with the aluminum spacer. I'm not sure which type Eastern has...
It worked ok but was a bit of a PITA given the thickness and trying to cut to fit. It’s rubberized and sticks good but difficult to get to lay down in some of the indentions even with a heat gun.
