I did a writeup years ago on all this but the highlights are:
system is progressive, meaning you can turn the dial and run enough water thru it to run the egt's down so low that the boost falls off.
tank is now 5 gallons and you can run about 20miles with your foot to the floor and in my case...
yes, you will need to use a diesel converter. the stall speed of the gas converter will likely be above the red line of the 6.2.
it will act as if the trans is slipping and you will have to run the engine at a very high rpm all the time to make the truck move. the governor in the trans will...
yup, it is. I did mine in about 2 hrs and aside from checking the water when you check the oil, it's been a completely bullet proof system for about 3-4 years now.. if for any reason the system fails you instantly see it on the egt gauge and you know to let off or take other measures...
I just put a 80E in my hmmwv and it's the shizzz. I also have the 6.5TD. I would do it again in a heartbeat. I can now cruise 70+ and all at much lower RPM and way better MPG.
it's way more than the pic makes it look. I'd say about 6" it I remember right.
also remember that this 5th wheel does not side tilt so you don't need the same height that you would with the original.
your going to need a cdl no matter what truck you use if you are towing 35k lbs and that is far more than any mil truck can tow on it's pintle.
Can it do it on a private off-road job site, ya sure, can it do it legally on the road, No way!
large truck shops also have a large air can to blast air into them and inflate them in a 1 step shot.
nozzle fits between the bead and the rim to shoot a large volume of air into the tire and it jumps onto the rim. similar to the starter fluid technique but without the fireworks.
I was able to lower the trailer height by about 4-6inches (almost as much as when I added the tires). it was a lot.
I had to cut the side plates off the std 915 hitch bc it has flats that go over the sides of the frame rail on the freightliner. I made it attach just like the original 818...
yes I put a 915's sliding 5th wheel on my 818. Made a big difference getting the trailer back down to a manageable height and with 53's I needed to be able to move the hitch back when needed.
