    85' M1009 build thread

I don't understand why the truck did not climb that staircase : locked both ends + doubler. Looks like tires aired down ok....should have worked.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

what has broken and how did it happen ?

This thing broke + this is what I think caused it = corrective action.

    M1009 suspension question

Think long term if you can. I got the 2WD steering box + frame brace (both bolt $ weld-on) + crossover + high steer + pitman arm. Now I want to install hydrostatic steering so did not need to spend all that $$ :(

what has broken and how did it happen ?

Cracked frame at the steering box, again. More reinforcement. Ultimate fix will be conversion to hydrostatic steering, next time I have $1600 laying around :)

Blazer up the Chute at Three Feathers : need more droop

Hoops + longer shocks + limit straps are on the to-do-soon list :) First is the weld-on frame reinforcement kit from ORD. I have the brace, but the frame cracked anyway, so will add the reinforcing. The truck presently has a 4" skyjacker lift, but it seems more like 6" to me. I'll be taking 2...

Any real benefit to installing a roll bar on M1009 ??

OK, not to hijack the thread, my answer to the OP has changed to: yes, its worthwhile to install a rollbar/cage. You see, I am willing to change my position if presented with a good argument :) I'll plan for a "family" roll cage to also protect rear passengers then compensate by taking out 2"...

Blazer up the Chute at Three Feathers : need more droop

Yeah, sorry about the video quality, it was a spontaneous effort by one of the guys with a cell phone. The other vehicles took the bypass, looked too easy to me, so I headed up "The Chute". When the others saw what I was doing, one ran over to spot and another to film. I am grateful to the...

Blazer up the Chute at Three Feathers : need more droop

At about 38 seconds can see the driver side front off the ground. That tire is not helping forward progress. The Rancho 9000 shocks have 8" travel: 5 up , 3 down. Need to adjust that. http://youtu.be/vdRLby4tJgg

Any real benefit to installing a roll bar on M1009 ??

You guys are convincing me, I have to give some thought to the extra mass , moving the CG upward, that the roll bar will contribute. Addiiton of the roll bar might make a rollover more likely.

Any real benefit to installing a roll bar on M1009 ??

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ehts5bQNYo8 Uneventful. Seems like rollovers are preceded by rear wheel hop. Maybe just coincidence ?

Any real benefit to installing a roll bar on M1009 ??

I don't have one in mine. I have looked at various Blazer rollovers on youtube, seems uneventful.

what has broken and how did it happen ?

I'd like to compile a list of "events" of broken stuff and the cause. I have not broken anything on the Blazer, yet, though the fenders have shown self trimming properties from the tires :) Another guy I ride with has had rear u-joint failure caused by axle wrap. Ladder bars fixes that. I hear...

I don't know of that one. Well, I guess I do now :)

Dana 60 front w/ crossover steering?

Am having a shop that I trust look into this. The truck has 4 inch lift , am looking to take 2 inch out, actually. Will be going to larger diameter tires yet the truck needs to clear the garage door :)

Dana 60 front w/ crossover steering?

Hmm. I was going to have a tab welded on top of the diff housing then another on the high mounted tie rod, so the cylinder is up out of the rocks as well. I don't know about the extra motion described, guess I'll put a "wheel cam" under there so I can watch.

Dana 60 front w/ crossover steering?

Hydro-assist is next on the list for my D60.
