I would guess it uses electric fans. It also leaves everything military spec which is to use the highest rated equipment that is feasible to do the job.
They also have requirements that call for the oversize military batteries to be drained to 0 then the engine started and the alternator fully...
Having a 60a alternator on a 24 volt system is the same as having a 120a alternator on a 12 volt vehicle. In most cases 60 amp 24 volt alternator is very excessive and will keep your batteries charged. There are no radios, amplifiers or LED lights that are practical to use in a m998 that will...
More info than you wanted to know...
24 volts DC acts very similar to 24 volts AC in regard to water. DC is where electrons flow one direction only. AC flows one direction then the electrons turn around and come back. The US standards and safety people determined around 24 volts is the maximum...
Its more the RPM that kills the engines. When you run a diesel at high rpm it will greatly shorten their life. Overdrive transmissions allow you to go faster while keeping the rpm's down.
How long ago did you buy the truck? I have put diesel trucks that sat for a long time back on the road. I have seen that problem where the truck would drive fine until I tried to take it on a long freeway trip then it would clog filters for a while. Once you get all the buildup out of the lines...
Try using a good fuel additive and driving much slower. Also you may go through a few fuel filters. Sometimes when you use Bio Diesel it will "clean" everything out and clog filters for a while...
I got a M998 2-7-17 I am still waiting for the paperwork. Mine started and drove. I will be renting a U-haul trailer and pulling it with a 3/4 ton van. Keep us updated...
Who are you picking it up from?
How far is it?
Does it start on its own?
If you are picking it up from a auction you should not expect it to have anything. I would spend time to check all fluids grease all fittings including the u-joints. You should expect to have to buy 2 new batteries and...
If you spend a few extra dollars up front and get a good one it will save you lots of $$$ and hassle in the long run. I got lucky with mine - another approach is to get a bunch and keep the best ones for yourself!!!
Here are som pics of my backyard. Code enforcement pitched a fit so I sold a few trucks to hire an attorney. I kept the tractor, 2 trailers, expandable van, and some other misc stuff till I finish with the court case. Its been going since 2013 and they still can't figure out what to charge me...
That one is very cool I like the lift gate. The ladder came loose and I fell out of mine luckily I landed flat and in soft dirt so I didn't get seriously hurt. The lift gate halfway down or so would make a nice patio and be closer to the ground.
Have you considered the 5 ton expandable van. They have lots of room. I turned mine into a game room for a while and it worked well. I don't remember the exact dim but I think it is about 17' x 14' or so expanded.
Propane only has 80% of the BTU or energy of gasoline. Gasoline has less energy than diesel. There is no real way to make propane as efficient as even gasoline because it just doesn't have as much energy per gallon. If the price of propane per gallon were to drop to less than 80% of the price...
