I would pull the plug out of the center of the hydraulic head on the injection pump (looks like a gas engine distributor) and soak with penetrating oil like Kroil for a day or two so that hopefully the plunger doesn't stick and the button come off the bottom.
I run a machine and welding shop and am pretty handy. I replaced all the bearings, main and 2nd in mine (thanks in part to your bearing list). Should have investigated wear more while I was in there. Do it again...
How about inspection related to the function of the braking action/ease of shifting? I have three trucks and my best trans (in the '70) is mediocre about ease of shifting, but I have no other trucks around to reference for "feel". I generally double clutch it because I don't like to force...

When dragging trees and junk, it helps to back up close, hook the chain to the dragged object as low and tight as possible, and as high as possible on the tow vehicle. Decreases friction on the dragged and increases for the dragger. :-)
Yes, low heat should help draw in the penetrating oil. Then lots of light tapping and a strap wrench. Patience.
