Bump...rebuilding trans, would be nice to have those dimensions. I don't think either was leaking, so I guess I could just go with the parts with the closest fit.
It's a heck of a lot better than my others. I'll press it off and measure today. I have another 2nd gear to try too. Deuce is scheduled for maneuvers in the desert this weekend, so this one may have to suffice for the time being. Don't have time to wait for one to get here from 'sinker or M35Tom.
Yanked the main shaft out of the '62 tonight. 2-3 synchro is gone, and it was noisy due to bad bearings. Couple teeth busted off reverse countershaft...but 2nd doesn't appear to be too loose on the main shaft. Will disassemble and measure tomorrow.
I may end up needing a stock 2nd and main. Tom has been helping me on the fb M35A2 group and I would like to do the kit, but can't right now.
Hmm, something just occurred to me...if you have a brand new main and 2nd, can you check how much the gear wobbles on the shaft if you twist it 90* to...
No, just check to make sure my input shaft and sleeve are OK before I build a trans. How's the aftermarket one with the seal coming?
Trying to build a trans for the '70 from parts. The one I got from the boneyard is making a racket in 5th, 2nd burned up. Have two blown up ones, the one that...
I should note...the '62 is an LDS engine with an LD pump. I know it's not a precise indication, but 7 threads showing on the main. I believe it's still safety wired. Not roadworthy, smokes pretty good though.
The '70 I'm trying to get to wake up had 3 threads showing, I bumped to 4 and will...
I turned up the main fuel setting a thread or so (more when gauges arrive) , it helped the starting some, which makes sense after reading a post by Floridianson stating that with the engine off, the shutoff goes to full fuel. What's strange is that if I floor the accel pedal, it starts faster...
This week I will be attempting to rebuild a trans for my '70 from some parts transmissions. In reading through TM 9-2520-246-34-1, I cannot find the dimension for the OD of the input shaft where it fits the sealing area of the sleeve or ID of the sealing area of the cap/sleeve that fits over it...
WHOOP!
Congrats! I know how you feel. I've been wanting a deuce since being around my dad's '53 (he called it a 6-by) as a kid. I was stoked when I got my '62 beater running, and when I got my '70 on the road. Can't wait to get a trans built for it and get it back on the road.
Work up slow. I think you just don't want to go crazy with it too much at once.
I I went a turn and a half I think. 1/4 at a time.
Might be be your issue or might help mask it or might not.
