Check the starter relay on the passenger side of the block. I had a truck that would intermittently not start, especially after it warmed up and was shut down. I discovered the battery cable post had stripped threads and would not tighten up enough to ensure a constant connection. You could...
Needs pressure testing. i bought a new one, installed in 2011. It is possible the o-rings or gasket have gone bad. TNJ Murray sells both gaskets and the o-rings for about $30. You always begin with the easy stuff. Eliminate one and move to the next.
If you think you have a cracked head or...
Begin with the easy stuff first. New gaskets for the oil cooler on the filter side of the engine could be the culprit. Easy to do, get the gaskets and o-rings from TNJ Murray and test the cooler interface for cracks. There are only so many ways water gets into the oil. Cracked head, oil...
Dueces normally have shorts. Get a volt meter out with a long extension and begin circuit testing. I changed all of the lock washers on the light mounts after cleaning the ground with a wire brush to remove rust. That solved most of the problems on both of my trucks.
You can look at all the manuals for assistance, but I found it difficult to find trouble shooting information that did not end with shipping the engine back to the depot for rebuild. This site is probably the best information on what happens and why.
I changed head gaskets three times before realizing that I had a cracked head. The crack was in the intake port and did not show up when the heads were resurfaced. Pressure testing would probably have caught it but it may have just gotten larger with the removal and torquing. Check it out...
I had starter relay problems, intermittent. When I removed it the cables came off easily except for one. The nut had stripped the post and would not come off or tighten. Check it out on yours.
Check your grounds first. Sounds dumb. Not dumb, smart. If the grounds are OK, look at the switch.
PS: I have heard the push button switches are glitchy.
We are in a disaster area now, five inches of sleet over 1/2 inch of ice and nothing to remove it, and my friends all wonder if I have had the deuce with 9:00x20 NDCC tires out 'helping' others. My answer is no. Not enough snow too much ice and I would wind up in a ditch myself.
You need to...
I have a deuce with some small chains, maybe three or four links each, screwed on the sides of the bed. No idea what they are for, just that they might come in handy one day for something.
With the spin on filters, changing the primary is quite simple. If the crud is not too much, note: too much, then I would just drain and change regularly.
Your comparison of the two units was extremely good I think. I also think the lack of any complaints is amazing also.
They have sold a bunch of the lock out hubs I think. Oh, well, sometimes good things happen to good people.
I just now finished changing the spin on fuel filters. I had to figure out how to bleed the air out, simple really, and everything works fine. Next time it might take ten minutes total to change out all three of the fuel filters. But, probably on the primary in actual fact. I think draining...
I have not heard or seen anyone posting failures here. Seemed that after four or five years use we would have some failures reported, if they were occurring. Gerhrhardt's post was most informative about the Ouverson and AVM lockouts and the differences. That was, hard to imagine, five and a...
